Idaho C.O.R.E. Project A creative group with the vision to design, build, and represent our community with an annual projec Is it a portal to some far off place? WHAT IS CORE? Yay!

2013 PROJECT TITLE: Marvin

ABOUT MARVIN:
Marvin, The Vortexagon is Idaho’s newest project for CORE. A sculpture representing chaos and geometry, reminiscent of a cascading waterfall, the swirling patterns of rivers, caverns, and tall columnar spires, Marvin pulls in a number of aspects we hold dear to our state. A remnant from some long-lost high tech civilization discovered in Craters of the Mo

on National Monument? Idaho is a close community, with a strong burner presence and mentality. We continue to diversify, and our work continues to fire the imagination of the Idaho Populace. Our strengths allow us to build complex and well thought out work. As a swirling mass of energy, a vortex sweeps up everything in its path. In this way, the project has swept up the imagination of our community, and has gathered us together to bring forth something amazing. As it burns, it will provide gifts that are “fired” by the flames of the structure. These are clay pendants by the hundreds, each hand-crafted and unique. They will be a surprise on the Playa and made available after the structure’s burn material is cleaned up. Marvin’s shape and complex meanings are like a portal, a vortex. The Circle of Regional Effigies (CORE) will be comprised of wooden sculptures created by regional communities around the world and will be placed in a ring around the Man during the Burning Man festival. CORE will culminate in a coordinated Burn on Thursday evening. The placement of these effigies in a circle around the Man suggest the progress of Burning Man culture—what started as a fire in the center has emanated out into many communities and “fires” around the world. CORE is meant to be a collaborative community project. We invite each regional group to work together on the concept and design of their effigy and on the fundraising, building, installation, and burn of their art piece. We ask that the effigy not be the work of just one or two local artists, but be a radically inclusive collaboration, open to all local Burners in your area who may wish to participate. FUNDRAISING GOALS
All donations to Idaho CORE will go directly to purchasing materials for the project. We're planning to raise close to $10K for 2013 to purchase lumber, hardware and lighting as our main expenses. Through fundraising events such as our annual CORE downtown event, community garage sales, Kickstarter online campaign, and other online tools, we plan on developing a diverse stream of fundraising activities. We turn to the community for borrowed and donated equipment and ALL labor is generously volunteered. PAST PROJECTS:

CORE 2012: "opalEssence"
The effigy will be lattice oval with an opening at the top and two doorways. The rounded organic form suggest several Idaho-related forms: a gem, a pinecone or even a futuristic potato. The egg shape also refers to 2012's year’s theme, suggesting a cocoon, a flower bud, transformation, and the organic nature of fertility itself. At night, the structure will be illuminated with colored lights to resemble an opal or a bejewled egg. ABOUT IDAHO BURNERS:

Cheers to CORE 2013, all the new friends we've made, camping near 4 other CORE projects, the endless support and great community energy, and the Marvin guardians who have journeyed along the way from start to Burn. Wishing only that we could've included EVERYONE in this photo. But know that we thank each and every single one of you.

Now, rest a minute, get that dust off ready for next year, and start turning those wheels, IDAHO! Get those ideas in for CORE 2014!

Curious how in the world we were going to load this thing? Here's how. Cheers to the last and final phase of Marvin's journey in good ol' Idaho.

In honor of all of those that could not be with us, and in a moment of reverence, Idaho CORE will go dark.

On the evening of Tuesday August 27th, at 10:00 p.m., and for a period of 15 minutes, Marvin will pause for a moment of reflection. MN CORE has lost a beloved leader, and our communities are a critical part of what this all means. We wish to honor those that could not join us by taking a brief period to turn off the lights, close our eyes, and remember.
