We get this question a lot:

“If I’m adding 2.5" InSoFast panels to the exterior, my window jambs become very large?”
Your jamb depth also depends on where the window sits within the wall assembly and how you plan to finish the opening once the exterior insulation is installed.

The takeaway: plan your window depth and exterior insulation together - not as two separate details.

At InSoFast, we don't like to overcomplicate things in the building industry.

Our Batt-Brackets, for example, are designed to install simply and create a straightforward way to hold batt insulation in place for a continuous exterior insulation assembly.

One panel system. A lot of different possibilities.

These are just a few customer projects using InSoFast container panels - each with its own layout, openings, and finished vision.

That versatility is one of the biggest advantages of building with a system designed specifically around shipping containers. The panels give you a consistent insulation and framing solution while leaving plenty of flexibility for what the space becomes next.

No two container builds have to look the same.

On this recent customer project, they did something a bit different on the outside corners with the InSoFast 2.5" panels.

In this case, they cut away the face of the panel and attached a solid backing board to easily attach corner trim and the end of the siding right next to the corners.

This is one of many way to attach siding to the outside corners when using InSoFast panels.

We're exploring a new tool that could help spray foam installers measure insulation depth while spraying with the X-Bracket System. A simple idea that could save time and material on the jobsite.

Sprayfoamers, what do you think of this? Would you find it useful? Let us know your thoughts.

Another exterior insulation project is underway.

This home is getting wrapped with 2.5" InSoFast panels to create a continuous insulation layer across the exterior before the final finish goes on.

We’ll be following this project as the installation comes together.

Installing a window buck and setting the window out from the container creates the depth needed for the insulation assembly to meet the opening cleanly - whether you’re using InSoFast panels or X-Brackets with closed-cell spray foam.

Build the opening first. Then insulate around it.

If you are using the X-Bracket System and sprayfoam as your exterior container insulation, it is best to use outset windows and buck accordingly so the sprayfoam bonds to exterior buck.

X-Brackets Over Shingles - Part 1: Find the Rafters

One of the biggest misconceptions about installing X-Brackets over an existing roof is that you’re fastening to the shingles.

You’re not.

The shingles stay in place, but the X-Brackets are laid out so the fasteners reach the structural rafters below.

First step: know exactly where your framing is.

Are X-Brackets really this easy to use in a basement?

We’d say yes.

Install the brackets, create the depth you need for closed-cell spray foam, then move on to the finished wall assembly.

A simple way to build a high-performance basement without overcomplicating the process.
