A color coated hotel at the dramatic edge of the Norwegian Sea 🌊

On the island of Træna, Ytri Island Retreat rises like a small fishing village, colorful houses set against the mountain Trænstaven, surrounded by heather moors and open sea.

The hotel idea came from the community itself, and Vardehaugen Architects drew on local building tradition and the old open structures once used for drying fishing nets.

The chosen colors are rooted in the strong hues of Norway's coastal villages and in the heathland and moss on the mountains.

Since sheet metal is a common material on the local houses, GreenCoat® color coated steel from SSAB was a natural choice. It now clads roofs and facades in a beautiful mix of Metallic Dark Silver, Metallic Silver, Silver Fir Green and Nordic Night Black, in both sinus and standing seam profiles.

Ytri is a tasteful composition, true to its heritage and built to last in a harsh coastal climate. A magical place, well worth a visit.

In Pine Green and Nordic Night Black, the steel adds a clean, rhythmic expression that complements the warmth and texture of the historic brickwork, creating a modern multi-generational retreat rooted in its past.

Koenigsegg chose GreenCoat® when building their spectacular sports car factory in Ängelholm, Sweden. 🇸🇪

The façade and roof combine GreenCoat® color coated steel sandwich panels in Nordic Night Black and Gravel Grey with Alucobond cladding, mounted in a pattern of varying gloss levels. The result is a dynamic exterior where light and shadow continuously interact across the surface.

The carefully composed materials and geometry demonstrate how industrial architecture can be both functional and visually striking.

T-formed barn house in silvery-grey tones, with an accentuated garden. 🌳

Ladhus Klövsjö is well rooted in the landscape on the Swedish west coast, with its GreenCoat® roof playing a defining role in the building’s connection to its surroundings.

The color coated steel roof in standing seam profiles in Metallic Silver was chosen to harmonize with the façade and create a calm, cohesive expression. The ambition was for the house to feel timeless and deeply connected to nature, as though it had always belonged on this site.

⛰️ Sheltered by rock and forest with sweeping views over fields and sea, the building comprises two volumes arranged in a T-form, lightly framing an intimate garden. A sedum roof over the terrace and storage volume adds a quiet counterpoint to the sober wood façade and steel roof, its muted tones shifting between green and burgundy.

A true summer dream in green, a promise of the simple life and a genuine connection to nature. 🌿

Located right by the water on Kallaxön in the very north of Sweden, you'll find Granholmen – a small, light green summer cottage blending into its lush, green surroundings.

The SSAB GreenCoat® coated steel roof in Silver Fir Green was chosen for its green tone and to withstand the rough archipelago climate. The wooden facade was painted with a light green lime paint to match. Together, the roof and facade form a calm and solid whole that becomes one with all the green shades on the tree-covered headland.

The house was built for a family who spends their summers there, as much inside as outside during the long Swedish summer days. The house is constructed in wood with a simple, open-plan layout.

Designed by Swedish architects Olsson Lyckefors and Josefin Wikholm, this project was all about finding the right shades of green to achieve the perfect, harmonious composition.
