French Morbier ‘Wag on the Wall’ clock for sale.
Made in the Franche-Comte region of France, a rural area on the Swiss border, about 35 miles from Geneva. These clocks were first produced in the small town of Morbier in the early 1700’s and produced in this area until the start of WW1.
This is a late model, made in the late 1800’s, possibly early 1900’s. This clock, like all Morbier’s, is a repeater. This means that it strikes the hour, then repeats the strike two minutes after the hour. A lovely porcelain enameled dial with Roman numerals and calendar with Arabic numerals.
No side doors.
The clock runs eight days on a full wind. The movement has been cleaned and fully serviced.
DM for info or purchase. $450

It’s been a while since we’ve posted anything here. We’ve been busy with repairs and restorations of all kinds. There are always a few larger restorations that are more involved than most and this black marble French mantel clock from the mid to late 1800’s was one of those restorations.

Our client purchased this clock from an estate overseas and, unfortunately, the clock was damaged in shipping. The client had spent many hours searching for such a clock and was not willing to just let it go.. And so we found it in our shop.

While we repair and restore many marble, slate, brass, and wood cases in our shop, we also have a variety of artisans whom we work with on certain projects. These specialists have more knowledge and experience with these specific materials and the processes used throughout history. They work with us to determine the best course of action for each project and all use traditional methods during the restoration process. We appreciate the work that The Art Objects Conservation Lab did to restore the marble case.

In addition, the base was repaired, the movement was cleaned, lubricated, and tested, and the brass hardware was lightly cleaned. After everything was installed in the case the clock was tested for 15 days, during which we made minor adjustments and regulated the timekeeping.

The client was overjoyed and so are we! Bringing a clock back to original condition after being considered a lost cause by many is the reason we do what we do.

Servicing this Hanson Tubular hall clock made in 1926. The Hanson Clock Company manufactured clocks in Rockford, Illinois. This was one of their earliest clocks made around 1926. Hanson made large, grand clock cases and imported the movements from a German company, Winterhalder & Hoffmeier, known for their exquisite movements. A wonderful example that has been passed down in one family and kept in excellent condition!

We repair and restore many different types of clocks for our customers, but the tubular bell striking clocks are among the more challenging and time consuming of all. This is an Urgos tubular grandfather clock movement that had stopped running, chiming, and striking. When restoring tubular clocks you must inspect, clean, and repair every mechanical component in the mechanism.
This movement was completely disassembled and rebuilt back to original working order. It’s a great feeling to see a clock running correctly after years of disrepair.

Happy new year! I’ve recently been enjoying this J. Paul Hellmuth Vienna regulator from the late 19th century. I love the steady tick of this excellent time keeper along with the spare and sleek Biedermeier style.
Here’s hoping everyone has a healthy and happy 2023!
