We are pleased to share that Emirates Safety Laboratory (ESL) has received an extended scope of accreditation from the International Accreditation Service (IAS).

This milestone reflects the continued trust placed in our technical competence, quality systems, and commitment to international standards.
This extension further strengthens our capabilities across fire suppression systems, fire resistance, reaction-to-fire, cable testing, fire pumps, and physical testing of thermal insulation products. It reflects our continued commitment to technical excellence, international standards, and reliable results that support safer buildings and infrastructure.

Fire testing is not a one-size-fits-all exercise.
Selecting the correct testing pathway from the outset can prevent unnecessary costs, project delays, and repeated assessments.
In the UAE construction sector, materials must comply with the UAE Fire and Life Safety Code of Practice (2018). However, the required test or classification depends on how and where the product is used within the building.
▪ Façades
▪ Internal wall systems
▪ Ceilings
▪ Flooring
▪ Decorative finishes
Each may require different fire performance evaluations.
The same material can even fall under different classification criteria depending on installation conditions and exposure risk.
In some cases, limited assessment such as combustibility or ignitability testing may be sufficient.
Reaction-to-fire testing — particularly SBI (EN 13823) — requires:
✔ Correct specimen size
✔ Proper mounting method
✔ Accurate orientation
✔ Real end-use simulation
Incorrect preparation or incomplete testing can invalidate classification reports and lead to costly re-testing.
Early technical engagement and structured compliance planning help avoid delays in approvals, certification, and market entry.

✅ EN 60332-2-2 (prescribed in the UAE & Middle East) evaluates flame propagation of a single cable.

✅ EN 60332-1-2 measures flame spread and black smoke formation.

✅ EN 13501-6 classifies Reaction to Fire for power, control, and communication cables—using results from EN 60332-1-2.

Across the Middle East, North Africa, and the Indian Sub-Continent, Authorities Having Jurisdiction require certification of electric and optical fibre cables when used in building safety systems.
