Hacia 2016, tuve la oportunidad de visitar un aserradero de la provincia de Buenos Aires, que trabajaba nativas del Noroeste de la Argentina. Entre mate y charla, recorrimos el galpón junto al dueño y encontré un tablón que me llamó la atención, de la pinta de viejo que tenía. De vista vi que daba la medida para una Telecaster y pregunté cuantos años tenía. Me dijo: "cuando compramos el aserradero con las herramientas, en 1981 ya estaba".
Lo llevamos y despues de una sobredosis de Penta, cortamos la silueta de Tele y acopiamos durante años, tratando de encontrar maderas que mariden el proyecto.
El contraste del cedro abichado que en cualquier caso sería de descarte, se combinó con un maple ojo de ave torrefactado y un ébano flameado Crelicam. Materias primas premium.

Back in 2016, I visited a sawmill in Buenos Aires that worked with native woods from Northwest Argentina. Between mate and good conversation, I walked through the warehouse with the owner and spotted a plank that really stood out — looked ancient. I asked how old it was, and he said: “When we bought the sawmill with all the tools in 1981, that board was already here.”
We brought it home. After a good soak in wood preservative, we cut out a Tele shape and let it rest for years, waiting for the perfect match of woods.
The contrast of that wormy cedar — which most would throw away — ended up pairing beautifully with torrefied birdseye maple and flamed Crelicam ebony. Top-shelf tonewoods.
This Barncaster comes loaded with a Fender Custom '62 in the bridge and an Alnico 5 Rickenbacker Hi-Gain in the neck.
Finished in natural shellac, by hand.
