Australian family owned business since 1995 - dedicated to crafting quality woodworking hand planes at affordable prices. We make 50 different types of woodworking planes that are suitable for the beginner to the experienced woodworker. We also produce tail vices and caulking mallets (for boat builders), and stock the full range of Colen Clenton marking out tools. We have done considerable development work to learn how to harvest, dry and stabilise Australian hardwoods (in particular gidgee) to give us a superior quality wood for plane making that has ever been used before. In conjunction with this we have learnt how to combine this wood with brass using modern glues to enhance the function and life of some wooden planes. As a consequence of this work we offer an unconditional guarantee on workmanship and materials without hesitation. If you have any questions about our tools don't hesitate to contact us.

We're back from the October Woodworking Roadshow! Tired, inspired and fired up!

A special thank you to the wonderful people and organisations who welcomed us, hosted us and helped make our October Roadshow such a success.

To , , , and , we couldn't have done it without you! It's a real privilege to be part of such a generous and passionate woodworking community. We're already looking forward to the next one!

Terry's workbench is already loaded with orders, with a colourful collection of shoulder planes coming together and plenty more underway.

And see if you can spot the Cooktown Ironwood Block Plane from one of our plane making courses!

It's good to be home, surrounded by beautiful Australian timbers and the familiar sights and sounds of the workshop. Next stop for these beauties is a good soaking of natural Livos oil to really bring those colours and grain patterns to life.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us on the road, attended a class or stopped by for a chat. You've certainly given us plenty of inspiration!

The truck is packed, the tools are loaded and we’re heading south for Tools, Timber & Techniques Melbourne at Timbecon Epping tomorrow.

We’ll have a good selection of HNT Gordon hand planes, workbench hardware and specialty tools with us, and Terry will be demonstrating throughout the day.

Pattern Maker’s Vice in the wild.

We always enjoy seeing where our tools end up, particularly when they’re being used on work like this.

has been putting his HNT Gordon Pattern Maker’s Vice to work while building this beautifully considered walnut timber-frame table.

This is a full day demonstration from Woodworking Tools

Melbourne, we’re coming.

We’ll be at Tools, Timber & Techniques Melbourne at Timbecon Epping on Saturday 10 October.

Every now and then the courier turns up with something that makes us stop what we're doing.

Today it was this handmade Harold & Saxon bevel edge chisel set.

We don't carry these as a regular stock item, and there's no waiting list. Trent makes them one at a time here in Australia, so when a set becomes available, it rarely hangs around for long.

Terry has been using Harold & Saxon chisels for years and still considers them the finest Western-style chisels he's ever used. That endorsement isn't handed out lightly.

We have one six-piece set available.

Fair warning... if you're just "having a look", your wallet may have other ideas. 😉

Putting a rather colourful batch of plane blanks to bed for the weekend.

A few of these photos are a little darker because they were taken in the stabilisation room.

Some will become planes for the Handworks show in the USA, although the bench is certainly not reserved for show stock.

Sleep well, little planes. There’s work to be done next week.

Terry is heading to Handworks 2026!

We’re delighted to be joined by Leslie at Heartwood Tools for Handworks in Amana, Iowa, on 4 and 5 September.

Time is short and luggage space is even shorter, but if there is a particular HNT Gordon tool you’d love Terry to bring along, please contact Leslie at Heartwood Tools and place your request.

We can’t make any promises, as Terry may need to leave room for a clean shirt, but we’re keen to do what we can!

Well, that moved quickly!

Only a few hours after announcing our October plane-making courses, the Daylesford Block Plane class is already fully booked.

There are still a limited number of workbench places available for the remaining Block and Shoulder Plane courses in Daylesford and Queanbeyan.

Hosted by Phoebe Everill and Evan Dunstone, each small-group course includes an HNT Gordon plane kit and step-by-step tuition with Terry Gordon and the HNT team. You’ll fit, assemble and tune your own plane, then take the finished tool home.

With only six students in each class, places really are limited. No artificial countdown clocks here. We simply ran out of benches.
