✅ At Siniat we believe in the rigorous testing and certification of our products to improve their performance and compliance to building codes and standards.

🔥That’s why our technical team have recently subjected Weather Defence® to stringent fire tests, and it is now certified for use in various -rated systems where an FRL is required!

🔥Being a plasterboard product, Weather Defence is also classified as -combustible in terms of the NCC, making it suitable for use in external walls of high-rise buildings. In the wake of several tragic building fires around the world, including the Grenfell Tower fire in London (2017) and the Lacrosse Tower fire in Melbourne (2014), combustible systems have become a pressing topic for building professionals.

🔥Weather Defence can also provide excellent protection in the event of a fire in the construction of buildings (Building Classes 1-3) in zones. Weather Defence can be used to wrap the entire building including the walls, roof and eaves to protect the occupants and contents during a bushfire.

⚽ It’s time for kicks, punches, power shots and strikes! ⚽

Great on the soccer field but less so for your walls...

Siniat’s Impactshield delivers a value-driven solution for commercial and residential wall applications where you need:
👊 soft and hard body impact resistance,
🔥 fire resistance and
👂 acoustic performance

Manufactured with a high-density gypsum core and finished with an identifiable green liner, Impactshield can substitute Fireshield within a Siniat system while maintaining the required FRL.

Ideal for internal linings in demanding commercial environments, Impactshield is built for spaces that take a hit - like hospital and school corridors - where durability and acoustic control are essential. When used as part of a system, Fire Rating Levels of up to 180 minutes can be achieved.

Impactshield: takes the hit like a pro, and keeps your walls in play.

The diagram above shows the typical installation of Weather Defence® in an external wall system.

Weather Defence is a 13mm thick external sheathing board (also known as a rigid air barrier) used behind cladding systems to help create a pressure equalised cavity.

It forms part of the weatherproofing system for external walls and can often replace wall sarking.

Weather Defence is designed to be installed on residential, multi- , , , , and buildings.

Typically, it is installed on
📌 Light weight steel stud framing
📌 Timber stud framing
📌 Modular buildings.

Weather Defence is easy, safe and quick to install. The installation benefits include:

🌧️ Projects can be closed in from the weather early. Weather Defence offers up to 12 months exposure to the elements.
⚒️ No power tools needed! Simply score and snap with a retractable knife. Easy to cut in situ.
👏 The purple matt liner is non-woven and non-itch.
☂️ Joints are easily sealed with Pro Clima tape to form airtight junctions around complex details.
👉 An additional pliable membrane may not be required, Climate Zone 1 excepted.

The primary purpose of is to ensure the safety and well-being of building occupants during .

While much attention is typically given to the structural elements of a building, it is crucial not to overlook the significance of seismic design for non-structural elements. The seismic design of ceilings is a regulatory requirement in Australia.

Seismic design also has significant sustainable benefits. In this blog we explore four of them: https://eu1.hubs.ly/H0tTNBp0

03/06/2026

Fire systems are rated to withstand a fire under test conditions for a certain period. This time is known as the Fire Resistance Level (FRL) and consists of the three criteria listed below:

🔥Structural Adequacy
🔥Integrity
🔥 Insulation

The image above shows a system with an of 60/60/60. This means that if a building element were exposed to a standard test, it would not be expected to fail for 60 minutes in each of the three criteria. The NCC specifies FRLs for building elements such as walls, columns, roofs and floors.

These FRLs can be many combinations of the three criteria, e.g. 90/-/-, 90/60/30 or -/60/60. A dash in the FRL means there is no requirement for that criterion.

💡NOTE: FRLs are about how well a system of components contains a fire. Fire properties on the other hand refer to a material’s properties, such as how easily it burns.

Plasterboard has natural fire properties, but some of our boards are specially formulated to improve their fire resistance even further. We recommend the installation of these boards for wall and ceiling systems to help control the spread of fire.

These include:

👉 Fireshield
👉Multishield
👉Trurock
👉Trurock HD
