🌱 A busy week in the work and home gardens! 🌿🍅
We’ve been making the most of the beautiful spring weather and getting stuck into our gardens this week! And judging by the number of people in the nursery section at the big green hardware store on the weekend, I reckon we’re not the only ones! 😂🪴
What we’ve been up to👇
🥬 Veggie patch prep: We’ve freshened up one of our veggie patches with some sugarcane mulch, Clyde Compost & .sea !
🌿 Rosemary & marigolds: Rosemary to deter the snails, and marigolds to help keep the white butterflies away.
🍅 Tomatoes – already?! A little early for my liking. I usually wait until Cup weekend, but our 11-year-old was VERY keen to get the first tomatoes in the ground. Fingers crossed we don’t regret jumping the gun! 🤞
🌱 A parsley rescue mission: I’ve planted out a very sad-looking supermarket parsley plant and am hoping a bit of good soil, sunshine and water will bring it back to life!
🫛 Sugar snap peas: These are ready to climb up some reo mesh.
🎃 We’ve also planted butternut pumpkins and Blackjack zucchinis
🍋 Fruit trees & citrus: we spread Clyde Compost around our fruit trees and citrus trees, then topped it all off with a bag of our Budget Tree Loppers Mulch. Not only does it look so much tidier, but the real benefits are underneath — improving the soil, helping retain moisture and keeping those weeds under control.
🌳 A little landscaping, too! We’ve also sown some Kikuyu seed where we removed an old fence and garden bed, and planted four peppercorn trees.
There’s something pretty satisfying about getting your hands dirty, ticking a few jobs off the list and knowing you’re setting the garden up for the warmer months ahead. 🌞
Now we just need a bit of sunshine, a few well-timed showers and hopefully a bumper crop of homegrown goodies!
What have you been planting in your garden lately? (We’d love to see pics!) Are you a wait-until-Cup-weekend-for-tomatoes gardener like me, or are you happy to get them in early? 😂🍅
