Dear Community Members,

I would like to address recent concerns regarding our fuel pricing and clarify we DO NOT price gouge.

Just to clarify- Yes the fuel excise came into effect April 1st, but that doesn’t mean that we have to reduce our price for the fuel purchased before this. All this means is any fuel purchased AFTER 1 April will be at the reduced rate.

To ensure the island had an ample supply during recent shortages, we filled our tanks before the fuel excise reduction took effect on April 1. Because we paid a premium for this stock, we cannot lower our prices until the current inventory is sold.

As soon as we begin selling fuel purchased under the new excise rates, our prices will be adjusted accordingly. Specifically, I have not purchased any Premium Unleaded (95) for over two weeks as we still have an ample supply; this is why the price remains higher than other stations on the island at this time.

We are committed to providing for this community. If we were to reduce current prices by the 31c excise, our business would be unable to sustain itself, which would result in a loss of fuel services in Dunwich.

Fuel prices on the island can vary because each of the three stations purchases fuel on different days and maintains different tank capacities. The cost of fuel is generally one to two weeks behind mainland trends, and our purchase price is often higher than the mainland's retail price. For example, the diesel purchased this week is the most expensive we have ever acquired- even with the excise, and we are currently absorbing those costs to avoid further price increases for you.

We are dedicated to this community for the long haul. Since taking over, we have reduced prices on 90% of our hardware stock and lowered the average cost of fuel for the entire island. Our goal is to stay in business while offering the best possible service at a reasonable price.

We also don't charge EFTPOS surcharges. We absorb these costs so the general public doesn't have to pay anymore than necessary.
This was a choice we made right at the beginning as a way to help the community with rising day to day living costs.

We operate with full transparency and are happy to show our records to anyone who feels the community is being treated unfairly.

We are confident that any review by the ACCC would confirm that our prices remain fair given the current market conditions and stock levels
