I have a ton of different interests and hobbies, and it's exciting to find something which is still completely new to me. I went into this class thinking it would just be a minor variation on knifemaking, but it was so much more than that...

Thanks to the amazing for all of the invaluable information and assistance in turning these bits of steel into a pair of functional tools, and some creative pieces I can be proud of. These are the first scissors I've made, but Ib definitely don't think they'll be the last!

Day 2 1/2 done and dusted!

One pair finished, and I'm quietly impressed with how well they work. Finish could be better, but it's a short course and the focus was on making them work properly. Second pair was heat treated this morning and will be finished later.

Huge thanks to Matt at for hosting, and to for all the info and help and for making sure we all got the most benefit out of the class. I don't think I'll ever look at a pair of scissors quite the same way again...

Day 2, and the second pair started. Different construction methods and more detailed work this time.

Still lots and lots of hand filling, some very careful and detailed Dremel work, some more filing and a bit of hand sanding. And putting a screw in and out another 30 times...

Because I don't already have enough hobbies going on...

Spending this weekend at learning to make scissors with the incredibly talented (and very patient) A lot of filing, a little bit of grinding, and one pivot screw going in and out quite 25 times and counting... Learning a lot and having a great time!

Looking forward to day 2

So what have I been making lately? Not much. There's been a mountain of did going on between work and home which hasn't left a ton of time for making, but I've been picking up the paintbrush again and attacking the "model pile of shame" a bit. It's a low-energy way to do something that's still creative and fun without overdoing it. I find that the level of concentration required is a good balance of "keeping my mind occupied so I don't overthink things" and "calming and de-stressing for the night to help me sleep". These Orks are the first ones I've painted and are still a work in progress, but I'm happy with the results so far.

Why, Facebook? Why would a person who creates a page about handmade products, with "handmade" in the actual title POSSIBLY want to show appreciation by using a GenAI image? I'm not sure exactly who the right target demographic is for that suggestion, but this isn't it...

We take dressing up pretty seriously around here! All of the leather pieces here are ones I've made myself (aside from the gloves and shoes!) over the last year or so. My young squire (not pictured) also has his own cuirass (just like daddy's armour). All the leather (and most of the paints, dyes and bits and pieces) sourced from .artisan.supplies

Anyone who has a chance, drop past this weekend - you'll have a blast!

Leather patterns include designs from and as well as a few of my own designs. Special thanks to my lovely wife for modelling her gear for me to photograph!

Getting a headstart on handles by gluing up liners and spacers while the blades are tempering.

If this looks chaotic, that's probably because it is... 🤣 It's more organised than it looks though! One of the side effects of having multiple interests and sharing a workspace is an accumulation of oddments on almost every horizontal surface. A fair chunk of the time my wife and I get to spend on the workshop is spent clearing space to work in first... I think we're about due for a big clean up. After the current projects are finished, of course...

Why yes, I AM heat treating some stainless blades today. How could you tell?

A couple of these might make it to the Queensland kn1f3 show with me if all goes to plan...

(See, I still make them sometimes!)
