💧🔧 WEDNESDAY WELLNESS: PLUMBING EDITION 🔧💧
We talk a lot about looking after ourselves… but when was the last time you gave your home’s plumbing a little wellness check? 😂🏠
Plumbing often gives you little warning signs that something needs attention. Here are 5 things worth keeping an eye on:
🚿 1. WATER PRESSURE
Pay attention to your normal water pressure. Too high, too low, fluctuating or a noticeable change from what you’re used to are all worth having checked.
High water pressure can also put unnecessary strain on taps, flexi hoses, valves, fittings and appliances, so stronger isn’t necessarily better!
🚽 2. RUNNING TOILETS
Once your toilet has finished flushing and refilling, have a listen. Constant trickling, water continuing to run into the bowl, the cistern regularly refilling by itself or a toilet that seems to take forever to fill shouldn’t be ignored.
Even a small, seemingly harmless trickle can waste a surprising amount of water when it’s happening around the clock. 💧
💧 3. FLEXI HOSES
These little hoses are tucked away under sinks, basins and behind toilets, so they’re very easy to forget about.
Every now and then, have a quick look for rust, corrosion, fraying, kinks, bulging, deterioration or any signs of moisture around the hose or connections.
If something doesn’t look right, don’t wait for it to fail before having it checked.
🔥 4. YOUR HOT WATER SYSTEM
Your hot water system is another one that’s easy to forget about while it’s doing its job!
Keep an eye out for water pooling around the unit, visible leaks, corrosion or rust, unusual noises, discoloured water, fluctuating water temperature or hot water that suddenly isn’t lasting as long as it normally does.
Changes from what’s normal for your system are worth paying attention to.
🌧️ 5. GUTTERS & STORMWATER
With the rain we can get here on the Gold Coast, this is a big one! 🌧️
When it rains, take a look outside. Overflowing gutters, downpipes overflowing or backing up, water pooling around the house, stormwater pits filling excessively or water that simply isn’t getting away properly are all signs your drainage system may need some attention.

Take five minutes this week and have a wander around your home.
Look under the sinks.
Listen to the toilets.
Check around the hot water system.
Look up at those gutters.
And pay attention to your water pressure.
Sometimes spotting a small warning sign early can prevent a much bigger plumbing problem later. 🙌🏻
