- 1993, I learnt how to design household domestic reticulation systems.

- 1998, Sales rep to hardware stores which included products from a South Australian based sprinkler supplier.

- 2009, Subcontracted to Total Eden installing domestic and small commercial retic systems.

- 2015, Subcontracted to commercial installer which included Parks, Ovals & Street Trees and Gardens.

- 2015, Service work for UWA and a number of Property Management companies through Perth.

2020 - 22, Subcontracted to New Ground Water Services installing commercial systems including the new Karrinyup Shopping Centre.

2019 - present, preferred service repairer for Real Residential, Secret Harbour.

Installing Valves: If you’re installing your own retic, when it comes to valves there are actually some standards that the Water Corp have set so that replacement is easier (these are not laws or anything but just common sense).

There must be 20cm of pipe on either side of the valve. This is so a new one can be cut in without having to replace tees and elbows.

That’s what I had to do on this job today. Some tricky pipework was done to get it all back together but I had to use 10 fittings to do it.

This could have been fixed with a couple of slip-fix fitting if there was more pipe between fittings.

With the weather cooling down a bit, it’s time to start putting less water on the lawns and gardens.

This table from the Water Corp shows how to adjust your run times depending on the season.

Pro Tip: Your controller should have a “seasonal adjustment” on the dial. Use this to change how much to reduce ALL stations run times instead of having to do each one individually.

(If the option isn’t on the dial, from the Auto position, press the left arrow and it should show a %. This is your seasonal adjustment)

I was asked by a client to move their valves because they saw the picture below and liked the idea of having them all neat and accessible. See the second pic for what I installed. Quite happy with the result if I say so myself 😀
