W**d PREVENTION in Everlastings

The best time to tackle w**ds is before sowing your everlastings — or even better, the year before planting.

If you think w**ds may emerge amongst your flowers:

Wait for rain (or water the area by hand). Around 7–10 days later, w**d seeds will begin to germinate.

Remove the w**ds by hand (recommended), or for larger areas, you may have to rip-up the soil a few times to physically kill the w**ds, or in the last instance use a knockdown herbicide.

Good w**d control is very important. You certainly don’t want w**ds emerging amongst your beautiful flowers, so it’s well worth spending a little time preparing the area before planting.

Can everlastings grow under trees? Absolutely! 🌸

As long as they receive some sunlight — even dappled or filtered light through the branches — everlastings can thrive beneath trees.

The challenge is often the soil. Under trees, soil can become compacted, nutrient-poor, and quite dry as tree roots compete for water and nutrients. While everlastings are remarkably resilient and will still grow in these conditions, they may not reach their full height.

For the best results underneath trees, create a raised planting area by building up the soil with a blend of garden soil and potting mix. This gives your seedlings a healthier, looser growing environment and the best chance of putting on a spectacular display — just like the examples shown here! 🌿

Do I need to buy seeds every year?

Not necessarily. Everlastings are self-seeding, so termed the ‘Seven-Year Daisy’, so they can come back on their own the following season. That said, self-seeding can sometimes be unpredictable — in between releasing their seeds on the ground and growing again the next year, seeds may be blown or washed away, eaten by insects or birds. A fresh packet guarantees a full display. 🌸

How to sow in a pot: These vibrant flowers are a delightful addition to any indoor or outdoor space! 🌿
All it takes is a pinch or two of seeds and some soil or potting mix in a pot, and you’re all set to go! It’s that easy! Just sprinkle on top and scratch and water in, covering the seed with a slight bit of soil. You can plant now if you’d like! 😄
Just remember to keep them well-watered while they establish. After that, depending on the weather, pot size, and where you place the pot, you might need to water them weekly. Happy planting!🪴
