Base compounds are designed for taping and basecoating joints, angles, and fastener heads. All-purpose premix can be used across three-coat applications or as a finishing coat, depending on the job. Matching the compound to the stage of work helps support adhesion, workability, sanding, and finish quality.

A clean finish starts before the final coat.

Australia’s construction industry is under increasing pressure as it works toward the National Housing Accord target of 1.2 million new homes by 2029. Current projections suggest the country may fall short by more than 200,000 homes, highlighting the scale of the capacity challenge.

Behind the numbers is a serious human cost. More than 200 construction workers die by su***de each year in Australia, compared with about 20 deaths from on-site incidents. Male construction workers also face a su***de rate roughly double that of other employed men.

Rising costs, labour shortages, tighter margins, compliance demands, and uncertain project pipelines are adding pressure, especially for smaller builders carrying financial and operational risk. Industry voices are calling for stronger business support, better systems, and more open conversations around wellbeing.

For the construction sector, productivity cannot be separated from people. A stronger industry depends not only on materials, supply, and delivery, but on looking after the workers and businesses carrying the build.

Australia’s engineered stone ban brought major attention to respirable crystalline silica, but cutting, drilling, grinding, or sanding silica-containing materials can still create hazardous dust. The lesson for construction is simple: product selection, work methods, dust controls, and PPE all matter.

Safety is not a paperwork issue. It is a site culture issue.

Good cladding performance depends on more than the visible board. Weather barriers, flashings, clearances, fixings, and installation details all help manage moisture and protect the structure behind the facade.

The board matters, but so do framing, insulation, fixing patterns, joints, penetrations, sealants, and installation details. Fire-rated plasterboard is designed to be used as part of a fire-rated wall or ceiling system, not as a stand-alone shortcut.

The product is important. The system is what gets the rating.
