Tool of the Week Tuesday: brazed Yasugi Blue steel Japanese shears.

You won’t find these at Bunnings.

Made for clean, controlled pruning with a proper working feel in the hand. The blade is Yasugi Blue steel, a high-carbon Japanese steel known for sharpness and edge holding.

What in your garden needs pruning right now?

Packed and sent from Perth.

Stop putting dirty secateurs back in the toolbox. A quick clean and oil makes a big difference.

After use, wipe sap and dirt from the blade, add a little oil to the pivot, work the handles a few times, then store your secateurs dry.

Japanese secateurs are made to cut cleanly, but they still need basic care if you want them to stay smooth.

Packed in Perth. Maintenance gear available at East West Tools.

“Now I don’t want to give them away.”

That was from a customer who bought these Tobisho Yasugi Brazed Type-A pruning shears as a gift.

The visible brass line near the blade is where the blue steel cutting edge has been brazed to the body by hand.

Small detail, but it says a lot about the way these are made.

Hand-forged in Yamagata, Japan.
Stocked in Australia and packed by hand from Perth.

Available now at East West Tools.
