The lads from Federal VMC had the pleasure of being invited to breakfast at the Tinamba Hotel this morning.

Today in 1943, the HMAS Patricia Cam was sunk by Japanese aircraft near the Wessel Islands claiming the lives of crew members and passengers (both Yolngu and Balanda). Missionary Len Kentish was taken prisoner to Aru in eastern Indonesia where he was subsequently interrogated and executed. The survivors of the blast drifted for 15 hours before coming to an islet off Guluwuru where two men subsequently died, stoker Percy Cameron and Yolngu Milirrma Marika. Fires that had been lit by the survivors caught the attention of Yolngu on a neighbouring island who immediately came to their assistance. Two groups of Yolngu were then dispatched to seek help - one to the south towards the mission and the other to the north to the radar station on Marchinbar. On the 29th of January, the survivors were rescued by HMAS Kuru.
