Can you use an FC recess disc on concrete? No.

The FC Recess Kit is for FC sheeting only. Run it on concrete and you'll wreck the blade.

Same goes the other way. Our concrete recess discs run a diamond blade that's too strong for FC sheeting.

Which disc goes with which fl**ge:
150mm concrete disc: ACT NOW rubber puddle fl**ge
200mm concrete disc: Puddle Pro puddle fl**ge
The rest of the range: AllProof fl**ges

Picking the right membrane matters less than most people think.

Blame the product and you learn nothing. Check your moisture readings, prime to the data sheet and give the screed time to cure, and you'll get the same result whatever brand is on the pail.

When a job goes wrong, look at what happened before the membrane went down.

A fl**ge that sits proud is a little dam around your drain.

You can nail the falls and the floor will still hold water, because the last few mil before the waste run uphill to the lip of the fl**ge. Recess it flush with the sheet and the water runs all the way to the grate.

On FC sheet floors, the ITA 230mm FC Recess Kit cuts the drain hole and the recess with one disc, so you don't swap tools halfway. It fits any nine inch grinder with an M14 thread.

The rule right now is membrane on top of the screed. Over FC sheeting, that's a gamble.

FC sheet floors move. If the screed cracks, the membrane on top cracks with it, and there's nothing under it to stop the water.

The fix from the class: PU membrane straight onto the sheet, screed laid unbonded over it. The floor can move without dragging the screed along.

Filmed during our practical class.

This test checks two trades at once.

The waterproofer picks the membrane. The tiler picks the adhesive. ISO 13007-5 tests them stuck together, so when it fails, it comes back on both of you.

Before your next bathroom, ask the tiler which adhesive they're using and check it's been tested over your membrane.

Pipe already in the floor? You can still recess the FC.

The ITA 230mm Dual FC Recess Kit is two recess discs in one. Take it apart and you have a disc that runs on a pilot. Put it back together and the bearing drops onto the 100mm pipe that's already installed, so there's no pilot hole to drill. The small disc shaves the PVC pipe as you go down, and you get the 150mm hole and the 230mm fl**ge recess in one pass.

FC sheeting only, not for concrete. Fits any 230mm (9 inch) grinder with an M14 thread. About 100 recesses per disc.

A cheap meter only reads the top of the screed.

Fifteen hundred bucks feels like a lot for a moisture meter. One failed job on a wet screed costs more than that once you count the callback. And the reading tells you which primer to use before you open a pail.

14/10/2026

Your DFT reading is only as good as your prep.

Bare substrate soaks up membrane unevenly. You can roll the same coat across the whole floor and still get a thick reading in one spot and a thin one a metre away. Prime it first and the surface takes the membrane evenly, so your wet film checks mean something.

Big elongation numbers won't save you over a crack.

Elongation is how far a membrane stretches. Tensile strength is how hard you can pull on it before it tears. When a crack opens, only a thin strip of membrane takes the load, so tensile matters more than the stretch figure.

Comparing membranes? Read both numbers on the datasheet. The big percentage is only half of it.

Which one do you check first?

Falls start at the slab now.

With normal screeds on the way out for external wet areas in NSW, the fall has to be poured in or ground in. That puts it on the concreter and the builder, before the pour. The waterproofer can't just screed it later.

If you waterproof balconies, ask what fall the slab is going in at before it's poured. Grinding it out after is slow and costly.
