TINTALDRA BRIDGE ACCESS SOLUTION
Building a working platform where there was nothing to build from.
Bridge works have a habit of putting the job in the one place you can't easily reach. At Tintaldra Bridge in Victoria's Upper Murray, the works were beneath the deck, the waterway sat underneath, and there were no practical support points from the ground.
The problem:
Conventional scaffold wants something to stand on. Take that away and the usual arrangement stops being an option, which is where a lot of bridge projects get stuck or get expensive.
Our Major Projects team in conjunction with out client, Transport for NSW looked at the structure, the span and the surrounding conditions, and designed around them rather than trying to make the site suit a standard system.
What we did:
The team used a modular beam arrangement to span between the bridge girders. This created a heavy-duty rated working platform at the required level for the maintenance works.
Why it matters on a bridge job:
Structure, span, location, traffic above, water below, available support points. All of it changes how access has to be designed and installed, and no two bridges land in the same place.
