The concert ukelele is built (no finish as yet). Top is Blackwood (Koa), back and sides are Kyogle Olivewood (thanks Derrek and Lindy), fretboard is Ringed Gidgee, neck is New Guinea Rosewood. Headstock veneer and bridge are also Olivewood. It sounds…like a ukelele…
P.S. the saddle isn't completely shaped yet

Time to put a finish on this PMG-OM (Orchestra Model). The first of many steps completed…sealing the wood with a couple of coats of shellac. Finishing with nitro can take the same amount of time as it takes to build the guitar.

Lacquer spray progress on the New Guinea Rosewood and Cedar PMG P-28.
Eight coats of nitro spray so far. A few to go. Waiting on some more spray to arrive.

Two out of three spray jobs done and this PMG JS-11A is finished and hanging in my new guitar rack.
Based on a Taylor design with various modifications, it has a clear and precise treble that really lends itself to fingerpicking or flat picking.
Main woods are:
Top - Sitka Spruce
Back and sides - Tasmanian Blackwood
Neck - New Guinea Rosewood
Fretboard/bridge/headstock/ pickguard - all Ringed Gidgee
Binding - Ebony
Gold coloured frets and machine heads

I have two levels of calling a guitar 'finished".
The first is when it is strung for the first time and is playable.

After that it needs to have the strings taken off and a finish...lacquer, shellac or oil applied to it. Once this is done the pick guard can be attached (if it's going to have one), and once that happens it's fully finished.

This guitar, a PMG Thinline, has now has been lacquered and has its pick guard. It is now finished.

It has a King Billy Pine top, Tiger Myrtle back and sides, Fijian Mahogany neck, Ebony bridge, Ebony fretboard, Ebony pickguard and trim. It also has a falcate bracing pattern.

Cold and windy outside. 11deg C. Workshop is a balmy 19.3deg though and Pink Floyd is playing with the odd percussive addition of branches falling on the roof. Hope all the big ones stay attached to the trees. 😬

Spray day for the pick guards of my last 3 guitars. At the moment my spray booth is my back deck so not always great conditions for spraying. Today is cold and a bit humid but it seems to be going okay. In a couple of weeks, when my current build is finished, I'll have 3 guitars waiting to be sprayed. Need to get onto it before the inertia gets too much.
Top to bottom in the stacked shot, they're:
Ebony
Ringed Gidgee
Queen Ebony
All between 1mm and 1.5mm thick.

The PMG production line. My cosy workshop. At varying times; tidy, messy, dusty, hot, cold and noisy. It is "lived in" though and keeps churning out guitars.

It’s cool when the body is all closed up and bound, then you pick it up and it’s vibrating furiously along to the music that’s banging out in the workshop. A sign of possible good outcomes in the final sound of the instrument.

Pretentious art shot of the week. The beginnings of another build. This one a P-28 dreadnought style instrument. Should be ready in about 3mths if anyone is looking to buy a guitar soon. Back and sides are New Guinea Rosewood with a quite uncharacteristic red tinge to it. All other options customisable at this stage.
