Behind every founder is a network of people who believed in them early. 🤝

This National Mentoring Day, we want to thank the people who make Start it what it is. Our mentors for sharing their time, their honesty and their networks. Our business coaches for guiding founders week after week, helping them grow as people and not just as companies. And our experts for bringing the right knowledge at exactly the moments that matter most.

A special shout-out to our alumni who now mentor the next generation. There’s no better proof that this community works.

And to our founders: thank you for staying open to learning. That’s where it all starts! 🚀

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐢𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐯𝐬. 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐢𝐭’𝐬 𝐠𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠.

𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘯: a notebook full of ideas, a childhood bedroom, and finding a co-founder on a matching platform.

𝘕𝘰𝘸: a tight-knit team of 13 in Antwerp, building a platform that runs invisibly behind major energy apps to steer heat pumps and EVs.

But the real story is not just in the milestones. It’s in the belief that keeping going eventually makes things click.
That three failed ideas are just stepping stones to the fourth.

And that you don't need a massive headcount to build a unicorn.

With Garage Stories, Axelle Moortgat goes back to where NOX Energy began, and why building a company is ultimately one big project you work on together.

"The US isn't one market. You need a strategy around specific states." Aline Muylaert, co-founder of Go Vocal

More and more Belgian startups are setting their sights on the US. A huge market, deep budgets, and customers who sometimes find you before you find them. But what does it really take? 🇺🇸

Go Vocal thought international from day one. Belgium was too small for its niche, so the Netherlands, France and the UK came first, all served from Brussels. The US came later, through inbound demand during Covid. Turning that into a real market meant choosing states, building around first cities and spending long stretches on the ground.

In our new blog article, we put her story next to Conveo's, whose co-founder moved to Manhattan within two years of starting. Two very different companies. One shared conclusion: Europe you can reach from Belgium, but the US asks for your time, money and presence.

𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐩 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞.
For NOX Energy, it started in a childhood bedroom and a student room in London.
Three failed ideas.
Four months with no income.
Parents asking if it was time to get a real job.

And hours spent driving around doing physical installations with knowledge gathered from YouTube videos.

In this Garage Story, Axelle Moortgat looks back on the messy, remote early days of NOX Energy.
Before it became the smart platform quietly lowering electricity bills across Europe.
"From the outside, everything looks polished," Axelle says. "It's not as pretty as it looks."

New EU packaging rules are here, and they're not just for packaging manufacturers. 📦

Since August 2026, the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation applies, with more obligations coming in 2027 and 2030. For food and beverage founders, that means new questions to answer: Can you prove your packaging complies, or are you relying on your supplier's word? And is the packaging you're designing today still allowed in a few years?

We sat down with Charles Claeys and Sarah Bos of Monard Law to find out what startups really need to know, because choosing the right packaging today is a lot cheaper than redesigning it tomorrow.

Building a business is a marathon. Are you taking care of the runner? 🏃‍♂️🧠

On October 10th, it's World Mental Health Day. That is why we are highlighting a core principle at Start it : If a founder thrives, the business thrives.

Too often, growing a company comes at the cost of personal wellbeing. Rising workloads and wearing too many hats can quickly lead to exhaustion.

Here’s how we’re supporting our community:
✅ Partnering with BloomUp for fast, confidential mental health support
✅ Encouraging founders to block recovery time and turn off notifications after hours
✅ Creating a culture where sharing doubts builds trust

At Start it , we work with startups across every field imaginable. For our latest Team Day, we traded the office for a very real one. 🌱

We spent the day in the fields at (on)kruid, an organic farm in Lievegem that grows herbs and turns them into teas and other natural drinks. Seeing first-hand how a startup from our 2024 cohort has grown was the perfect way to recharge as a team.

A big thank you to the on-kruid team for opening up their farm to us, and to Compliments of Nature for the delicious flavours that kept us going throughout the day!

Fueling female founders, driving a stronger ecosystem. 💡

Women remain underrepresented as founders and in access to funding, yet the ideas, talent and ambition are there. At Start it , we're committed to closing that gap by giving female entrepreneurs what they need to scale: expert coaching, a strong network, peer support and direct access to investors.

Through dedicated programs and partnerships, we support women-led startups at every stage, from validating a first idea to getting investment-ready. Because a more diverse tech ecosystem is a stronger one.
