Most homeowners & builders are told to compare windows by price, colour, and style.

But the real performance of a window is often hidden in the details you cannot see right away: the glass surface, the coatings, the spacer, the frame design, the seals, and the support behind the product.

That is why some low-cost overseas windows look fine at first, but later develop staining, fogging, condensation, drafts, or hardware problems once they go through Canadian weather.

The concern is not every imported window. It is low-cost offshore products, often from mass-market Asian suppliers, that may look similar at first but are not always built or supported for Canadian conditions.

The real risk is buying a window system based only on price, without knowing who tested it, who services it, and who will stand behind it after installation.

Quand un hôtel s’intègre à un bâtiment historique du Vieux-Montréal, chaque détail doit être pensé avec soin.

Sonolux est un hôtel boutique à thème cinématographique, avec des projections directement dans les corridors. Ce concept unique apportait une contrainte importante au niveau des portes de chambres : elles devaient offrir une performance acoustique supérieure, bien au-delà des exigences coupe-feu habituelles, tout en s’intégrant harmonieusement au design du projet.

Le projet comprenait aussi l’ajout de fenêtres secondaires en aluminium à profil mince, installées entre la façade patrimoniale existante et l’intérieur des chambres. Ce type d’intervention est souvent essentiel dans les bâtiments historiques, puisqu’il permet d’améliorer le confort thermique et acoustique sans compromettre le caractère architectural d’origine.

Pour ce chantier, Everco a fourni des fenêtres en bois sur mesure, des fenêtres secondaires en aluminium, ainsi que des portes d’hôtel haute performance, coupe-feu et acoustiques.

C’est toujours gratifiant de participer à des projets qui demandent à la fois sensibilité architecturale, performance technique et souci du détail.

When a hotel is integrated into a historic building in Old Montreal, every detail needs to be approached with care.

Sonolux is a boutique hotel built around a cinematic concept, with screenings taking place directly in the corridors. That unique vision created an important requirement for the guest room doors: they needed to deliver acoustic performance well beyond standard fire-rated expectations, while still fitting seamlessly into the overall design.

The project also included thin-profile aluminum secondary windows installed between the existing heritage facade and the interior of the rooms. In historic buildings, this kind of solution is often essential, since it helps improve both thermal and acoustic comfort while preserving the original architectural character.

For this project, Everco supplied custom wood windows, aluminum secondary windows, and high-performance fire-rated acoustic hotel doors.

It is always rewarding to take part in projects that require the right balance of architectural sensitivity, technical performance, and attention to detail.
