For Atlantic Canada, population and economic growth are not just economic indicators. They directly influence the regionโs ability to build, maintain and deliver the housing, healthcare, education and infrastructure that communities need.
Atlantic Canada is among the oldest regions in North America, and an estimated 266,000 ๐ฉ๐๐จ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ ๐๐ซ๐ ๐๐ฑ๐ฉ๐๐๐ญ๐๐ ๐ญ๐จ ๐ซ๐๐ญ๐ข๐ซ๐ ๐๐ฒ 2035. At the same time, there are not enough workers entering the workforce to replace those retiring.
That creates a fundamental challenge:

A growing economy is essential to maintaining strong public services, public infrastructure and social programs. But growth also creates greater demand for housing, commercial spaces, healthcare facilities, schools and other infrastructure.
This is where ๐๐จ๐ง๐ฌ๐ญ๐ซ๐ฎ๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐ฉ๐ซ๐จ๐๐ฎ๐๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ ๐๐๐๐จ๐ฆ๐๐ฌ ๐๐ซ๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐๐๐ฅ.
If the region needs to build more with fewer available workers, we cannot rely solely on increasing the size of the traditional construction workforce.
We need to explore better ways of building.
That means increasing productivity, adopting modern methods of construction, improving processes, embracing digital technologies and finding opportunities to move more work into controlled off-site environments.

By shifting certain activities from the job site to manufacturing environments, the industry can create more controlled, repeatable and scalable processes -helping address labor constraints while supporting increased construction capacity.
Economic and population growth ultimately raise a bigger question for the construction industry:
