Excited to launch this fledgling market idea in Delta.
We're inviting vendors to join us at the blacksmith shop on a few choice dates throughout the season. Our first market will be held Saturday May 17th from 9 am to 2 pm. You will find local creatives offering a variety of wares. Some things you can expect to find include garden seedlings, textile art, artistic ironwork, preserves and natural skincare products.
The blacksmith shop will be open with demonstrations running for the duration of the market - AND! it's the season opening of our beloved Old Stone Mill. Grain grinding demonstrations will start at 1 pm.
Make a day of it! Take a stroll across the street to our historic Jubilee Block and have lunch at the BastardCoffeeHouse with more unique shopping experiences at their curated thrift and wellness shop right next door. Or enjoy the outdoors in our Millstream Park landscaped with beautiful native plants by Rideau Roots.

Spring is here! We are excited to invite students back into the beautifully restored Delta Forge, right next door to the Old Stone Mill. Beginner level classes will cover basic blacksmithing techniques including drawing out, bending/twisting and punching. You will receive focused instruction on coal forges with an emphasis on historic tools and techniques, gaining experience in tending a coal fire, introduction to the various uses of an anvil and hammer control. Visited this garden fence that we built last year, now that the plants have grown in and around it. We were asked to match the neighbour's fence, and we eagerly agreed once we noticed that all the little C scrolls were held in place with collar and rivet joinery. Also, a couple of window well grates, design inspiration pulled from Otto Schmiler's book, The Smithy's Craft and Tools.

We don't post much these days, but this latest job was just SO much fun I'm compelled to share with you all.
The client built these beautiful stone steps himself, following the curvature of the bedrock as it naturally stepped down through the forest towards the lake. His ask was for us to fasten the railings directly into the bedrock. Luckily only a couple of holes were very deep before we found it. There was a lot of on site work and the last day was a push to finish through thunderstorms and torrential downpours. It was dramatic. Involving all 4 elements, earth, water, air and fire, the ironwork truly feels one with its surroundings.

We had our first 1 on 1 session in the Old Stone Mill Blacksmith Shop today. It went so well. First time blacksmith PJ Livingston accomplished 2 J hooks and a fire poker with a forge welded end. Very impressive for a 4 hour session. Hopefully we will see him around the shop in the future.

Also, gift certificates have arrived! If you are interested in gifting a blacksmithing session to someone over this holiday season shoot us a message.

Special thanks again to Art Shaw and the Delta Mill Society for providing this beautiful space for us to l share our trade.

We're pleased to announce that we are now offering blacksmith training courses through the Blacksmith Shop attached to The Old Stone Mill, National Historic Site in Delta, Ontario. When we moved to town 5 years ago we were so excited to find a functional blacksmith shop in our new home town. What are the chances! Since then the forge has been lovingly restored and a new teaching forge added to the space. The community has welcomed us with open arms and we are so thankful to you all.

At this time we're offering classes of 1 student to 1 instructor or 2 students to 1 instructor in 4 hour time slots. Beginner level classes will cover basic blacksmithing techniques including drawing out, bending/twisting and punching. You will receive focused instruction on coal forges with an emphasis on historic tools and techniques, gaining experience in tending a coal fire, introduction to the various uses of an anvil and hammer control More advanced classes will cover more complex forming techniques, forge welding, and heat treating as it applies to tool making.
For the first time blacksmiths, we will make a series of J hooks and square nails.
If you have prior experience blacksmithing please reach out and we can discuss your interests / projects to progress your skills.
