“I’ve been painting from a young age, and art has always been a way for me to express myself and clear my mind. I love being in nature and have always admired animals, so wildlife naturally finds its way into a lot of my work.
Over the years, I’ve explored many different styles and mediums, including murals. This wildlife series is actually a newer style for me. I wanted to create something bright and beautiful, combining bold, unexpected colours with realistic details. The eyes are especially important to me—I want them to look back at you, almost like they’re looking right into your soul.
I don’t think I’ll ever be an artist who sticks to just one style. For me, part of the fun is experimenting and seeing where an idea takes me. More than anything, painting is about the way it makes me feel. It gives me a chance to get lost in something creative and quiet my mind for a while.
Outside of painting, I wear many hats. I’m also a hairdresser and have spent years building houses alongside my husband. They may seem like very different worlds, but I’ve always been happiest when I’m creating something with my hands.
If one of my paintings makes someone stop, look a little longer, and feel something, then I’ve accomplished what I wanted to.”
