The New Haven Railroad Historical and Technical Association, Inc. and Rapido Trains Inc. have teamed up to offer the iconic EMD FL9 (EDER-5) in a new paint scheme variation available exclusively from the NHRHTA!
Named after Robert Haas, the New Haven paint shop foreman, at least fourteen FL9s were repainted in the 1960s by the railroad’s own paint shop. These repaints were similar to their “as-built” scheme, but had several differences:
NH Haas Repaint Variations:
- NH Serial #409 Red Orange instead of NH Serial #406 Orange Red
- The area just above the stainless-steel grille is black, not white
- All the nose and rooftop grabs are NH Serial #409 Red Orange
- The nose logo and each “N” in “NEW HAVEN” on the sides are lacking the extra lower right “N” serif
- The rear loco road numbers were not applied
Our HO Scale Model Features:
- Correct details for a post-1960 EDER-5 with nose MU
- Full underframe detail including piping and conduits
- Etched-metal “No-Warp” grills
- See-through roof-top fans
- Operational headlights, back-up light, class lights, and number boards and a full cab interior
- Either sound-equipped with an ESU LokSound V5 DCC decoder or DC (DCC ready with a 21-pin socket)
- MoPower equipped for uninterrupted loco power!
- Authentic sounds including Hancock air whistle and 3rd rail mode traction motor sounds without the diesel
- Rapido’s 5-pole, skew-wound motor and silky-smooth drive system
- Macdonald-Cartier metal knuckle couplers
NOTE: These models will be the darker #409 Red-Orange and will not match any other NH FL9, but that is accurate (see photo at left).
