Jacobs Home Hardware Store began in 1900 when Henry Gilles converted a blacksmith shop into a hardware store. In 1934, local entrepreneur Gordon Hollinger purchased it, renaming it Hollinger Hardware, and appointed Henry Sittler as manager. Together, they built a strong business rooted in value, service, and dependability. By 1938, the staff included just four people: Hollinger, Sittler, Enoch Mar
tin, and Ross Wall. In 1950, Sittler, Walter Hachborn, and A.H. Zilliax acquired the business. To help Dealers compete with discounters, they formed a Dealer-Owned cooperative, and on January 1, 1964, Hollinger Hardware was sold to the Dealers. Hachborn became President and General Manager. Continued growth led to the 1967 relocation of the head office and distribution center to a new 75,000 sq. facility on Henry Street.
