Some exciting work is happening at MIT, as they recently shared an update on their campus decarbonization plans, which includes converting steam/boiler infrastructure to a potentially large-scale electric heat pump plant.

For campus engineers watching these transitions, it brings an important question into focus: Can the equipment inside each building then deliver the required comfort at the proposed water temperatures? We know we can make this work with 110°F entering hot water!

This is a question to ask early in the process. Room loads, emitter capacity, sound levels and available space all influence how the system comes together. We can help you work through these decisions, like how to connect the overall energy plan to what’s installed in the classrooms, libraries and student housing spaces.

Here’s the update in case you’re interested!

Mechanical engineers don’t need another brochure telling them a product is “innovative.” You need answers.

Can the unit meet the sensible and total load at the scheduled water temperatures? What is the coil pressure drop? Which fan speed is required? What sound data applies? Where are the piping, electrical and service connections? Is the Revit file accurate? That’s where a good manufacturer earns its place on the project.

We’ll help you evaluate selections, work through dimensional constraints, access drawings and BIM files and develop solutions that can actually be installed, controlled and maintained.

We’re totally patting ourselves on the back here, but we think we’re a pretty awesome partner. 10/10 you should check us out.

Calling an hvac unit quiet is a little like calling a car fast. What does it even mean? In what conditions?

Sound performance should be reviewed at the fan speed, airflow and external static pressure required by the actual design. It’s more than the friendliest possible test condition.
Engineers should consider:
• Sound power or sound pressure data
• Fan speed at scheduled capacity
• External static pressure
• Supply- and return-air configuration
• Vibration isolation
• Filter condition and service access

Here's a picture of a homewoner who couldn't believe the units were running because they were so quiet, so they put streamers on them to make sure!

Sometimes, the traditional solution creates a bigger problem. When a project requires more heating output, the default has often been to double-stack conventional fin-tube elements—adding depth, material and installation complexity.

We have another approach.

Our compact, high-output hydronic solutions are designed to deliver the performance demanding spaces require without the bulky double-stacked configuration. The result is a cleaner installation, greater design flexibility and a system better suited for today’s lower-temperature heating applications.

In this first picture, this Jaga Type 15 Low H2O heating element can replace 3 or 4 single pass fin tube elements all in one assembly.

We don’t think that heating capacity shouldn’t have to mean more equipment.

Traditional high-output fin-tube systems may require several elements to be stacked in the field. This can mean extra tees, supports, welds, piping connections and pipefitter hours. A factory-built multi-row assembly can place several aligned finned elements on a shared header, allowing one supply and one return connection to serve the unit.

The fins line up, the air path is cleaner and the field work is reduced. And because it’s a passive heating solution, there’s no fan motor waiting to become somebody’s future service call.

Our factory can build whatever you need.

At Dockside Green in Victoria, a central 2.4 MWt energy centre provides heating and domestic hot water to 700,000 square feet of connected space. The community’s original energy strategy was built around an on-site biomass plant that converted locally sourced wood waste into heat—a pretty ambitious idea when the first phase opened in 2008.
Inside three of Dockside Green’s high-rises, Jaga Strada and Mini wall-mounted convectors were selected to operate at an elevated 50°F ΔT.

Why does that matter? A wider temperature difference allows the terminal units to extract more heat from each gallon of water. For the same heating load, that can mean lower flow rates and cooler return water—both important to the efficiency of a district energy network.
Dockside Green is a good reminder that district energy performance doesn’t stop at the plant. The terminal units have to hold up their end of the system, too.

We work with a lot of amazing partners, but Adam in Edmonton is a boss. Here he is in front of the MacEwan School of Business building where he played a tremendous role in coordinating the entire project...and apparently squeezed in a modeling gig for Mark’s Work Warehouse while he was at it.

Safety gear: flawless.
Project coordination: even better.

Thanks for making it all happen, Adam!

A few weeks ago, Bert, Wendy and Jonas joined our North American team for a two-city visit focused on both the work happening now and what comes next.
In Vancouver, the team toured several local projects, which looks much differently than Jaga's typical European applications!
From there, the group headed to Chicago to begin planning our 2026–27 marketing activities, including our partner party during the AHR Expo.
Good work gets even better when the right people are in the same room!
