I know, has been quite some time since my last post, but here I am again with a new project. A 1:24 scale model of the RCMP “StRoch a Canadian Arctic patrol vessel built in 1928 in North Vancouver.
The model is planned to be completed by this summer and has been in works for a good number of years.
The aft section is built plank on frames showing every structural member of the hull. The wood I used is boxwood and everything will be visible. Also the engine room with all the equipment including the 6 cylinder Union reversible diesel and compressor generator will be accessible.
The forward half of the ship is fully planked and will be completed as the ship was modernized in 1944.
I will post more as I make some progress.
Enjoy

Well, the 74 guns ship of the line is completed and ready to go to its owner. It was a very tedious and challenging project. From now on it will be well protected from dust and other perils in this custom made oak framed acrylic display case.I hope she will last at least another 2 Centuries if not more.
Anybody interested in custom made display cases, drop me an email.
Thank you for watching and Merry Christmas to all of you!

I know, it has been quite some time since my last update, after the Rodney project, I took some time off and after that I was busy with smaller restoration projects. Now I have on my work bench a remarkable 200 years old model of a French 74 guns ship.
It is remarkable not only because of its age, but also because of the very high quality of all details. Also is very large at 1,700mm(6 feet) by 1,500mm (5 feet)high.
Unfortunately it is very dirty and has some damage on the hull and the rigging.
It will keep me busy for a while, cleaning and doing all the necessary repairs as well as a badly needed display case.
Enjoy and thank you for watching.

Well, after more than 5,000 hours, HMS Rodney at 1:48 scale has been completed.
For those who don’t know, this was a Royal Navy battleship commissioned in 1927 and served throughout the world war 2. She carried 9 16” guns in three triple turrets. She was 710’ long and could sail up to 23 kt.
This model was 100% scratch built, with a aluminium plated hull, individual planking decks, and all brass or copper superstructures.
The model is almost 16’ long and weighs approximately 250kg. It is encased in a solid oak framed display case.
I will post in the next future a small video showing a small succession of most important stages of construction.
For those who want to see how this model was built, please follow my site at:

Probably this is the last video showing progress on the HMS Rodney model before will be completed. As you can see the 16”guns turrets are done with the exception of the 20mm Oerlikon shields which I still have to made. Also the 4.7” HA guns on the quarter deck have a shield around them with a elevation limiter bar which also must be made.
Other details like the railing around the ship, flags, ship’s name will be completed within the next couple of weeks and then will be ready to be installed into a solid oak display case.
Thanks for watching!

Almost finished with painting, still have a few parts but mostly is done by now. Working to rig the funnel anchors, there are 12 in total, and after that install the 8 barrels pom-pom AA guns with their platforms.
Still lots of work to do but mainly installing parts from now on. I hope to have her finished by the end of May.
Thanks for watching.

More parts were added to my model as you can see in this short video. Progress is slow due to the complexity of most parts, but I feel I make some though.
Will be back when I have something new.
Thanks for watching.

One more update on my HMS Rodney project, completion of the funnel, and the two main AA directors. Funnel is made of copper sheet and most of its components are soldered in place. All are going to be primed and airbrushed with RN grey colour.
HMS Rodney is built at 1:48 scale and measures 4.5m (15’)long.
Thank you for watching.

More parts added to the model of HMS Rodney. As you can see the the two steam launches and 27’ whaler as well the 32 motor launches are ready to be installed.
Still more work to be done on the tower, two more radar and rangefinder directors, but now with Christmas approaching probably I will take a bit of a brake.
Merry Christmas to all my followers!
