Cellulose Ether HEC Hydroxyethyl Cellulose
Hydroxyethyl Cellulose (HEC) is a versatile, non-ionic, water-soluble polymer derived from cellulose, appearing as an odorless white powder that forms clear, viscous solutions with excellent pH stability (2–12) and compatibility with surfactants and salts. As a multifunctional additive, it serves primarily as a thickening agent to enhance viscosity and texture, a stabilizer and emulsifier to prevent phase separation and ensure homogeneity, a film-former and binder for protective coatings and adhesion, and a protective colloid for suspending particles and improving dispersion. HEC finds broad applications in personal care and cosmetics for thickening shampoos, lotions, and hair products; in paints and coatings to improve rheology and sag resistance; in pharmaceuticals and food as a binder for tablets or stabilizer in sauces and beverages; and in construction and detergents as a water retainer in mortars or thickener in cleaners.
