The story about Fors MW is the story about a true entrepreneur. As so often with entrepreneurs it’s not the goal in itself that is interesting, it is the journey to reach it. Leif Fors, founder of Fors MW, has throughout most of his life been in charge of his own company within the most different type of branches, always with the same hard work and energetic fire. The e
ntrepreneur booked himself a ticket at a ferry between Stockholm and Tallinn at the end of the 80 - ties. The journey was first and foremost conducted out of curiosity and a large portion of public interest but what would reveal itself not further away than 400 km from the Swedish boarder would shake the entrepreneur by his roots and he chose to stay and has not really left since then. The company was founded in 1992 and is today the oldest Swedish company at place in Estonia. When the company was first registered it received number 46 out of all companies. Fors MW is an Estonian company but Swedish owned and with Swedish management. It has been a journey filled with good fortune and bad luck, as life in itself. Today Fors MW stands as a blooming company with hundreds of employees, an efficient and quality based production and daughter companies in both Sweden and China. Today Fors MW owns three market leading brands with markets all over Europe. Structures none existed and needed to be built from the beginning, quality thinking was not natural in a country that had lived 50 years behind the iron curtain, and neither were the will to give service to others. Then there were no banks, laws or regulations. It has as for everyone who starts up a business been a journey that has demanded everything. A journey that all the time has been in need to be evaluated and new decisions needed to be taken. Fors MW has encountered everything from the collapse of the Estonian bank system in 1997 (that nearly put us out of business), the effects after the hurricane Gudrun (that run across Northern Europe 2005) and in which time Fors MW was the only producer able to provide the market with hundreds of machinery within 2 months, a comprehensive fire 2006 (that could have put the best out of business) to today’s global financial situation. Our history makes us humble for the future. We know that everything can happen, we know that one never is better than ones last invention and last customer contact but we see possibilities as considerably greater than the threats – we have skilled employees and the expertise. We have customer insight, the products and the market position and we have the financial resources to be there and set the terms for our own future. For Fors MW the journey has only started!
