Monday Memories – Back to 1976

As we celebrated our 50th year at Allendale Building Supplies in August we thought we'd take a trip back to where it all began.

1976 — a time when life was very different… and so were the prices! 👀

🏠 Average house price – around £12,000
⛽ Petrol – around 34p per litre
🥛 Pint of milk – around 10p
🍞 Loaf of bread – around 11p
🥚 Dozen eggs – around 35p
🍺 Pint of b**r – around 32p
🎬 Cinema ticket – around 70p
🚗 New Ford Cortina – around £2,000
💷 Average annual wage – around £2,900

No online ordering, no smartphones and definitely no AI — just a trip to your local builders' merchant and a chat with the team!

50 years on, plenty has changed, but one thing hasn't — the importance of great products, great service and looking after our customers.

What do you remember costing a lot less back in 1976? 👇

🗣It’s National Customer Service Week!

So we thought it was the perfect time to give a shout-out to the whole team at Allendale Building Supplies.

From the counter and yard to our drivers, office and everyone behind the scenes, good customer service is a team effort — and we’re proud of the people who go the extra mile for our customers every day.

But we want to hear from you…

Has someone at Allendale gone the extra mile for you?

Is there someone who always greets you with a smile?

Or someone who already knows what you need before you’ve even asked?

Who gets your vote for brilliant customer service?

Give them a shout-out in the comments and let them know. We’d love to hear from you.

And a big thank you to all our customers for your continued support.

🏒 A great evening with Paces Sheffield

On Saturday, we were invited by to watch the Sheffield Steelers and what a great evening it was.

It was fantastic to spend time with like-minded people, build new connections and, most importantly, support such a brilliant local cause.

At Allendale Building Supplies Limited we’re proud to give back to our local community, and we’ll be supporting PACES further with a Christmas collection later this year. 🎄

PACES supports children and adults with neurological conditions and their families, helping them to live more independent and fulfilling lives.

We’ll be proud to play a small part in supporting the fantastic work they do.
❤️

📜 Monday Memories

A little trip back in time to 1977…

Not quite the prices you’ll see at Allendale today! But it’s a great reminder of just how much things have changed over the years.

Allendale Building Supplies has been part of the local community since 1976, and we’re proud to still be serving the trade and our customers nearly 50 years later. 🧱

How many of you remember building materials at prices like these?

⭐ ANOTHER 5-STAR REVIEW! ⭐

There’s nothing better than hearing from another satisfied customer.

From competitive prices and on-time deliveries, to our drivers taking the extra care to place the products as close to the house as possible — it’s great to know the service made a difference.

Reviews like this are important to us. They not only give us valuable feedback, but they also show the team that the work they put in every day really is appreciated.

At Allendale, customer service is paramount. Whether you’re dealing with the lads in the shop, our drivers, our Operations Manager, Director, accounts or Social Media & Marketing Coordinator whoever you speak to, the same high level of service should always be expected.

We’re a family-run, local business and we take pride in looking after our customers from the first conversation to the final delivery.

Thanks again, Sarah — we really appreciate it!
