I am an ex British Army vehicle mechanic that has an obsession with all things engineering and automotive. My real passion is helping those in need and helping them come to the most cost effective solutions for maintaining or repairing their vehicle.

The owner of this car is a care worker who is on call and desperately needs his car to be a working one. Worried that it might be an expensive repair. Anyhow, told him to bring it to me at 7:30pm on a Saturday night as an emergency to see if I can help him. Diagnostic done with fault codes for turbo position. Turned out the fault was caused by a split vacuum hose to the boost control solenoid. I had to chop the split but of the hose off and then reattach it. He is ordering more hose so we can do a proper job but for now his car is sorted.

I don’t think I give this car enough credit. I’ve probably been too harsh on it. Now I’ve sorted the ride quality, it kind of seems a shame to sell it. But I move jobs in a few weeks and a diesel car makes no sense for my new, very short commute to work
