🔧 Meet the Team – Robert Boa Ironmongers
At Robert Boa Ironmongers, our team is at the heart of everything we do. This week, we’re introducing another familiar face who many of our customers will know — Helen Wiegratz
Helen is a valued member of the team and plays a big part in creating the friendly, welcoming atmosphere our shop is known for. Whether she’s helping customers find exactly what they need, sharing her knowledge, or having a chat and a laugh at the counter, Helen helps make every visit to the shop a positive experience.
Get to know Helen a little better below 👇
You’ve been part of the family ironmongers for 25 years — what first brought you into the business, and what made you stay?
I was looking for a change at the time and honestly didn’t think I’d last five days — yet here I am 25 years later! I’ve stayed because of the people. I really enjoy working with the team, having a laugh with customers, and the daily chat that comes with the job.
How has the shop changed over the years, and what’s been the most interesting change you’ve seen?
It’s been great watching the younger generation of the family grow up and eventually take over running the business. They’ve made some huge improvements while keeping the same friendly atmosphere the shop has always had.
What’s your favourite part of helping customers, or a memorable customer interaction that’s stuck with you?
One that always makes me smile was when a customer came in asking for slug pellets. The only thing that came to mind at first was air rifle pellets which were called slug pellets back in the day — then he quickly said, “I want to kill them but i am not standing shotting them” Turns out he meant slug pellets for the garden. Moments like that stick with you!
If you could describe the shop in three words, what would they be — and why?
Friendly, busy, and an Aladdin’s cave. It’s a place where you can always have a chat and a laugh with customers, the days are busy so time flies, and we really do stock a bit of everything.
What do you think makes a traditional family ironmongers special compared to larger stores?
After being here so long, you feel like part of the family. You’re treated well, your opinion matters, and customers appreciate the personal service you don’t always get in bigger stores.
