Local angler Kevin Spriggs has been bagging up at Lake Helen on his secret hook bait. It works on waggler, pole or feeder. Every time he comes he catches mixed bags between 40lb and 60lb. Highlights from last week include a 10lb common, 5lb bream and 3lb tench. But best of all a two pound roach, weighed and witnessed by other anglers. 2lb for the roach and 12oz for the wet net.

Kingfisher Cottage guests Gordon and Ian have had great fun this week catching carp off the top on the sunnier wind-free days.

Kingfisher Cottage guest Nigel Hodkinson has been having great fun bagging up on big roach, rudd and bream all week. He estimates he's caught 40lb+ every day. The killer tactic is 6m elasticated whip with pinkies, red maggots and banded pellets on the hook. He's fed up with the big carp smashing him up two or three times a day though. We've still got weeks available in the holiday cottages if you fancy catching some?

Alan Langdale had a great holiday in The Boathouse Cottage at Lake Helen last week. He landed 18 carp to 26lb. Most fish came from the margins on the warmer nights. He was using cut down garlic boillies over a secret sticky mix. Pictures here of some of his bigger fish. There are still a few weeks available in The Boathouse this summer. Sorry everybody, Lake Helen will be closed for public fishing from Monday, March 2nd to Wednesday, March 4th for more work on the bank. The cottages are open as usual

Today was the first time this year I've seen carp on the surface. This guy was taking naturals off the top a couple of hours ago. The warmer weather has got them moving. You'll have to wait until Thursday to catch him, though!

They breed them tough in Lincolnshire. It's minus three outside and there's only one tiny hole in the ice that ducks have kept free (see earlier post). But young Penelope Porter was desperate to try out her new pole. Dad Brannon set her up and they've been bagging up on good sized roach.
