Understanding brick finishes 🧱

The finish of a brick can completely change the look, feel, and character of a build.

There are three main types of brick finishes used for traditional style bricks:

✨ Weathered Finish
A weathered finish is created by applying a weathering solution to the face of the brick. Different strengths can be used to achieve anything from subtle ageing to a heavily weathered appearance.

🪨 Tumbled Finish
Tumbled bricks are gently distressed to soften their edges and create an authentic reclaimed look. Expect rounded corners, textured surfaces, and the character that comes with a rustic finish.

🏛️ Aged Finish
Aged bricks are new bricks that have been treated to replicate the appearance of genuine reclaimed bricks. Techniques can include weathering, tumbling, tinting, and mortared finishes.

As featured on George Clarke’s Beautiful Builds 🏡

We worked closely with Mitch and Elliot at Molecule Designs to supply our Soft Red handmade bricks for their renovation and contemporary rear extension.

The project called for a brick that would bring warmth, texture, and authenticity to the build. Chosen for their rich tones and handmade character, our Soft Red bricks complement the striking arched doorways while adding depth and contrast against the clean rendered finish.

The brief called for a finish that felt considered and timeless rather than overly uniform, with the natural variation and aged appearance of the bricks helping to give the extension real character and warmth.
