With this hot spring, and the rain just before it... a flourish of weeds have come out on the market gardens. The stirrup hoe has been out daily!!

Second most used tool on our farm, after the mighty broadfork, is a couple of different sized stirrup hoes. We have a few different versions... all of them are awesome. We have handles to match too, couldn't do without these for knocking back small weeds on dry days.

In this heatwave the best way we've found of keeping those plants going has been to use a great irrigation system. One of our favourites is the Aquifer Field Irrigation kit from Neversink Tools.

Aquifers water evenly, deeply, and quickly. They are also very low maintenance and can be kept in place year-round. No more running irrigation for hours on end!

This kit covers 3000 square feet and contains:
- 4x Sprinkler 63cm stands with stainless steel stepping stakes,
- 4 High performance wobblers
- One Hose swivel
- One End of the mainline figure eight closure

You will need to supply your own 25mm mainline poly pipe which we also supply!

Lots of salad going out for the bank holiday weekend. And this year we have upped our game using the Greens Cut Harvester! What an upgrade, we have seen it before but getting it on the farm and using it has been next level. What would take about 40 minutes to harvest is down to less than 5 minutes.

If you have any questions about the greens cut harvester, and how it works, do drop us a comment or message ๐Ÿ’š

Call us a bit sad, but we have been having lots of fun on the Jang this week ๐Ÿ˜‚ We have direct seeded rocket, radish, small carrots, and beetroot with this amazing thing.

Our process has been broadfork the bed, give it a hoe with the stirrup hoe, rake it lovely and flat. Then direct seed with our Jang JP01 - then hit with lots of water with the neversink irrigation field kit. Super fast way to get thousands of seeds in the ground and give them the best start.

All of the above is available from our online store, go and have a look or please do comment with any questions... we would love to chat all things direct seeding this week ๐Ÿ’š

Effective pest control doesnโ€™t have to rely on chemicals.

We're exploring how Integrated Pest Management (IPM) helps growers reduce pest pressure using smarter, more sustainable methods. By combining prevention, monitoring, habitat creation, and targeted interventions, growers can protect crops while supporting a healthier ecosystem.

Learn practical strategies such as:
โœ” Encouraging beneficial insects
โœ” Using crop covers and physical barriers
โœ” Improving plant health through strong soil management
โœ” Monitoring crops early to prevent outbreaks
โœ” Building resilient growing systems over time

For market gardeners, prevention is often the most powerful tool of all.

Great germination starts before the seed goes in the ground.

In our blog, we break down how the right tools and techniques can help you create a fine, level, and well-structured seedbed. This is the key to strong, even crop establishment.

From aerating soil without damaging its structure to refining the surface for optimal seed-to-soil contact, small improvements in bed prep can lead to better germination, healthier plants, and more consistent yields.

Whether you're growing at scale or starting out, mastering seedbed preparation is one of the highest-impact skills you can develop. ๐ŸŒฟ
