J&W McCall Supplies was established in 1957 by Robert McCall, a joiner by trade. In the early days the
company specialised in maintenance and contracting, undertaking work for various government departments……
……This continued into the 60′s, when the company diversified into a more general contracting business, working on a wide
range of projects, from schools to commercial projects, the majority
of which were local to County Down. Robert McCall founded a joinery workshop on the Dundrum Road in Clough at this time, initially to service the needs of
the contracting side of the business, but increasing demand from other contractors led to success and expansion to the
extent that the joinery workshop became the primary focus of the company. In addition to finished timbers and specialist joinery products, the company began to supply a range of general building
products. In the mid 70s the business expanded with the addition of the timber yard, joinery machine shop and 15,000 sq ft stores
at Blackstaff Road on a greenfield site, where it has remained to the present day. Following the move, the old joinery workshop at the Dundrum Road was converted into a kitchen and bathroom showroom which
is today the main tile and bathroom showroom for the company. At this time a new tile store was opened on the Castlewellan Road, where the Mace shop stands today. J&W McCall Supplies have been a family run business from the beginning, with Robert’s wife and both sons, Jim and William
being actively involved in the company. Jim went on to develop the timber and building side of the business, investing in timber processing machinery and installing
a new fast feed automated mill. In addition, Jim also built up a successful timber importing side to the company, ensuring the
supply of quality timbers at keen prices to an ever increasing customer base. William chiefly concentrated on growing the tile and bathroom side of the company, opening new outlets at Carryduff and Lurgan
to become one of the country’s leading independent distributors and retailers. This family progression has continued, with directors Jim and William in recent years handing down the reigns to their
respective sons, Richard and Andrew, the current directors. The name McCall has deservedly earned an excellent reputation over the years for quality, hardworking, traditional family
values and honesty, leading to a dedicated customer base in both the timber and building side of the company and the tile and
bathroom showrooms. This is still reflected today in their high standard of customer service, good quality products and materials and in the
excellent staff retention levels throughout the company. Today, with the same core values, J & W McCall Supplies Ltd
remain a customer focused, forward thinking company, always developing in ways to best serve the needs of their customers.
