“What’s the most common mistake you see people make when choosing materials?”

He gave us some interesting ball knowledge because it wasn’t actually about the materials themselves.

“Not planning ahead, and needing delivery immediately. Also, recently, people use ChatGPT to estimate their materials, and it is often wildly out.”

It’s something we’re seeing more often across the industry.

When projects are rushed from the start, material choices become reactive instead of properly planned. That can lead to delays, incorrect quantities, wasted spend and unnecessary pressure on site teams.

AI tools can be useful for rough guidance, but material estimation still needs real industry knowledge behind it.

The other day we saw something on a roofline that’s worth talking about. It wasn’t necessarily the gutter itself, but how it had been installed, that had caused it to come away from the wall.

Using the correct number of brackets might seem like a small detail, but it makes a big difference over time. The manufacturer recommends spacing at 600mm for a reason. Without enough support, guttering can start to bow, flex, or even pull away under the weight of water.
