How can drainage complement wider garden design?

In Part Three of our collaboration with Jenny Murphy of Murphy’s Garden, we explore how the visible finish of a drainage channel can influence the overall appearance of an outdoor space.

ACO RainDrain is available with a choice of designer gratings, allowing the drainage to coordinate with different paving materials, planting styles and project finishes.

Drainage has an essential practical role, but considering the grating alongside the wider design helps it become a more considered part of the completed garden.

Watch Part Three and let us know: which finish would you choose for your outdoor space?

Choosing drainage is about more than finding somewhere for the rainwater to go.

In Part Two from the Rill Garden, Jenny Murphy of Murphy's Garden discusses why ACO RainDrain is chosen for the project and how the channel and grating fit into the overall garden design.

The right drainage solution needs to suit the application, manage surface water and complement the materials around it. These considerations become particularly relevant in autumn, when increased rainfall can expose areas where water collects around paths, patios and entrances.

Watch the video to hear the reasoning behind the choice and see how drainage forms part of the wider project.

Autumn puts every garden's drainage to the test.

In Part One of our collaboration with Murphy’s Garden, we explore the role drainage plays in the Rill Garden and how ACO RainDrain forms part of the finished scheme.

With autumn bringing heavier rainfall, falling leaves and wetter paved areas, drainage becomes an essential part of keeping an outdoor space working as intended. Considering surface-water management alongside the paving, planting and layout also helps avoid treating drainage as a last-minute addition.

Working with gardeners and enthusiasts on real projects allows ACO to gather practical perspectives and create educational content grounded in genuine outdoor spaces.

Watch Part One and let us know: how early do you consider drainage when planning a garden?
