The application window for the next round of the Farming Equipment and Technology Fund (FETF 2026) for English farmers will open on 17 March.

A total of £50 million will be available to farmers, growers, foresters and their contractors to invest in equipment and technology.

Funding is split across 3 themes:

> £20 million for farm productivity
> £20 million for animal health and welfare
> £10 million for slurry management

Automated alley scrapers help keep stalls clean, but a few overlooked tweaks can go a long way in protecting tails and avoiding costly issues.

Quick checklist:
✔️ Check load sensors seasonally to catch abnormal tension
✔️Keep 1" clearance between wing + curb to avoid pinching
✔️Smooth blades + cable tension = fewer snags
✔️Time scrapes around cow flow
✔️Good airflow = less tail swinging into the alley

Bonus: Trimming tails at freshening helps keep everything clean without adding work.
