Ilkley Thingery is a community resource sharing hub - Ilkley's very own Library of Things. As a lending library, we offer a convenient and affordable way for people to access a wide range of items without the needing to buy them. From borrowing tools for a DIY project, or a tent for a camping trip, to lending a lawn mower or a carpet cleaner to spruce up your home before a party, we've got you cov

More than a library of Things - we now offer low cost repairs for textiles and portable electric things). We'll soon be offering workshops, a mental health support group, and a meeting space for local groups. We need volunteers to allow us to open on more days... if you're interested in volunteering with us, email [email protected] or call in to the Thingery during opening hours.

We don't want to keep your deposit... but we will.

We ask for a deposit for a couple of reasons. While we are a charity and love our community, unfortunately we can't just operate on trust.

You might lose your deposit IF:
- You don't return the item
- You break the item
- The item isn't returned clean

Our volunteers give up their time to keep this project running, and if something is broken or needs cleaning, we have to use this time making the item suitable to be borrowed again. That's why we ask that everything is cleaned properly before return, and is kept in good condition. If something is natural wear-and-tear, don't worry, just let us know, but otherwise, please be careful and help us keep our library of things alive!

🚲 Making some solid progress on our bike! Massive thanks to Harry for helping with some of the mechanical bits! 💜 All the tools/foot pump used to mend the bike can be found in the Thingery 😁

That’s right! 🛍️ While shopping second-hand is a great choice, it’s second-best to avoiding buying at all. 🛒

When we avoid buying, we reduce waste significantly, limit overproduction, lower the demand of virgin resources… as well as save money and space! ♻️

🤝 Borrow from your friends, your family, your neighbours, your local Facebook group - and if they don’t have what you’re after, borrow from us! 💜
