🏛️ BUILT IN 1890. ABOUT TO START ITS MOST IMPORTANT CHAPTER YET.
Our scaffolding is up at Weelsby Hall in Grimsby, and this one is a privilege to be part of. 🏗️
The Hall is a Grade II listed Victorian villa, built in 1890 for George Frederick Sleight, one of the great names of Grimsby’s fishing industry. 🐟
With the scaffold up, the real work can get going. Chimneys and stonework. Roof slates carefully stripped, with around 70% of them being kept and reused rather than skipped. Every single sash window freed from its frame and repaired rather than replaced. First floor partition walls taken out to open the Hall back up to its original layout. 🔨
That is restoration done properly, and none of it happens without safe access to every inch of the building. 📐
But here is the part that makes this one different. 👇
Weelsby Hall is being brought back to life by Linkage Community Trust, a charity supporting people with learning disabilities and autism. 🧡
When it is finished, the Hall becomes a training hub for the people they support, with a sensory integration room, a platform lift and full accessibility throughout. The Stables are being turned into residential units. The grand staircases, the plasterwork and the original fireplaces are all being restored around it.
Backed by £3.5m from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, with support from the UK Government, North East Lincolnshire Council, The Pilgrim Trust and the Historic Houses Foundation. 🎗️
So a house built for one of the wealthiest men in Grimsby is about to spend the next hundred years helping people learn, work and live independently. 💛
We just put the scaffold up. But some jobs you are genuinely glad to have your name on, and this is one of them. 🧡
