Ulnes Walton's Viking history blends local legend and West Lancashire settlement patterns. The village name comes from a Viking or Danish pirate named Ulf. According to local folklore, Ulf sailed his longship up the Ribble Estuary, navigated the River Douglas and River Lostock, and settled at Littlewood.
