Materials used better. We help designers and architects use surfaces to their full potential, because change shouldn't mean waste.

Surface Matter work with some of the most exciting materials out there - from sheets made of recycled paper to colourful panels that rethink plastic waste. Our design-led surfaces have sustainable qualities and can be used in everything from retail and office spaces to kitchens or skate parks. We support designers and makers by working through projects, sharing samples and information, discussing design criteria and material suitability, supplying the actual sheet material, offering technical and fabrication information and making useful connections where we can. Our studio shows off the materials we love in action - in our desks, displays, kitchen doors and surfaces as well as prototype pieces, samples and large panels. Our love of materials drove us to curate a materials library in our studio that architects, designers, creatives and material enthusiasts are free to explore and find inspiration.

From a sculpture touring nine cities to a sauna that goes from 90°C interiors to subzero storms, Richlite R50 is holding up where materials get pushed hardest.

Heat resistant, low maintenance, and a patina that gives it more character over time. Swipe to see how it’s holding up.

Impact beyond the built environment

Our recent volunteering at , gave us a great insight on the role community plays in creating a lasting impact. Every week, the food bank provides 350 food parcels, including fresh food, while redistributing surplus food and supporting people experiencing homelessness.

Alongside this, the hub connects people with organisations including Citizens Advice and Age UK onsite. While partnerships with , and .are.felix rescue surplus food and redirect it to those who need it.

Thank you to the brilliant team at Euston for having us, and for the positive impact you all make every day!

The best workplaces don’t just support productivity, but they create places people want to be.

At Conductor, Studio MULTI and Tabitha Isobel reimagined the space as a warm, hospitality inspired environment centred around connection, comfort and community. In the café, Karlite Sienna, made from recycled car headlights, forms the café canopy adding warmth, texture and a distinctive material story.

What if recycled plastic became the most beautiful thing in the room?

Plasticiet’s installation for Ace & Tate shows how thoughtful design can completely transform perceptions of recycled materials. Crafted from hand-pigmented recycled polycarbonate, every display piece is unique, proving that sustainability and premium design can go hand in hand.
