Around 6 months ago, a little black cat started visiting our Stanway branch. She was underweight, losing fur, had a flea allergy, and as it turned out, was a mum to two kittens 🐱

Colchester Caring for Our Cats: "Nigel was heavily pregnant when she was coming into our care. Sadly, her feeders carrier wasn’t secure, and she got out prior to going into her fosterer's home. Stanway Rovers football club sent a message about a cat they believed to be a stray, it was Nigel! We then established she was a regular visitor at Collier & Catchpole. Back in the trap she went, later released back with a tracker collar, as she had milk but no kittens were found.

After months of feeding and following her, the kittens were found! Both girls were spayed and chipped, along with mum. The kittens (Gremlin & Leonie) have taken up residence at a home for wayward puss cats. Mum Nigel had other ideas.. A girl who knows what she wants.

The minute she had a chance, she gave her fosterer the slip and returned to Collier & Catchpole. The great news is she is now their resident cat. She is so so loved and spoilt. She sleeps on the bosses desk, they have a rota to feed her and she chose her place to call home. A wonderful story, added to our grey hairs over the months and Nigel, what a lady you are!! Thank you to all the Colliers staff who love and care for Nigel. She chose you"

So, we've made it official and adopted another cat, or maybe she adopted us. Welcome to the team, Nigel the Yard Cat, we hope you like being comfy.

P.S. The biggest thank you to Anne and the volunteers at Colchester Caring for Our Cats for everything you do. You are incredible 💛

Great work team. Fantastic customer feedback to our wonderful driver Alan, once again 👏

"This is a letter I sent to Collier & Catchpole it says it all really: Hi Chris, hope you are well I just wanted to send you a quick email to praise one of your staff, as you are aware I’ve been trading with Collier & Catchpole for quite a while and have always been very satisfied by the exemplary service you and your team at Manningtree provide.

Yesterday your lorry driver Alan went above and beyond, what was originally a standard delivery I realised by placing the 4 x packs of blocks in a certain area would make my job loading out the scaffold much easier I asked him if he thought he could do this.

After careful thought he assessed the safety aspect and said “yes I think I can do that for you” absolute perfection, that man knows his lorry and his Hi-ab, in what is a difficult world our job is now that bit easier because of the professionalism of you staff. Thank you" 🤝

Behind the scenes: building a new brick library using stuff you can find in a builders’ merchant 📹

07/10/2026

A big well done to Chris and the team who have built a custom brick library for our Lawford branch, making sourcing bricks easier than ever. 👏

The new library is packed with different colours, textures, finishes & special shapes to help you compare bricks properly and find the right match for your project. 🤝

Phil & Jasper, pictured below, have an impressive 100 years of brick merchanting experience between them and will be at the library, ready to talk bricks whenever you are.

Phil said: “No need to make it sound like we are the bee’s knees, because we are.” Jasper added: “I love brick.”
