We were approached by T.W. West Ltd to get a DX140 LCR working with a dual-control function. At the time, the machine could only operate a single auxiliary function, but with a new job coming up at their Egremont site, they needed both grab and rotate to work seamlessly.

After assessing their current setup and the options we offer, we proposed the following solution:

By utilising the machine’s built-in 2-way hydraulic function, we adapted the feed and return lines to a twin dual-solenoid delivery system. This allowed us to use the existing hard pipes on the boom and electronically switch between grab and rotate at the push of a button.

The job took the full day, as we had to strip the cab to route the new electrics properly. We then returned the following morning, in daylight, to fully test and operate the system—ensuring everything worked exactly as required.

🚪 Project Completion: Remote Door Operating System

This project has been a long time in the making — from hinge design and extensive fabrication to calculating the precise door weight for the correct Nm-rated gas struts to assist with opening.

Once the customer had the door installed on-site, they asked if we could take things further and design a remote operating system that could function both wired and wirelessly.

Finding a 240v-compatible system proved challenging (as most wireless systems operate on 12v–24v motors), but our team sourced the right components and designed the roller system in-house, based on detailed site data and dimensional constraints.

The concept began as a simple pencil sketch, which was then developed into a full CAD design through collaboration between Forth Designer Cris Butuc-Mayer and our engineering team — turning an initial idea into a fully functional solution.

The project was carried out by Kevin Fitzwilliam from our Trade Counter team, who completed the installation, connected all components, and tested the system to ensure smooth and reliable operation.

A final clean-up, a final farewell — and another innovative, bespoke solution delivered by the Forth Trade Counter team.

🚜 Call-Out Success – New Durdar By-Pass, Carlisle 🚜

As part of our subcontracting partnership with Hydraquip, the Forth Trade Counter team attended a breakdown on a mechanical excavator at the new Durdar by-pass in Carlisle.

🔧 A metal hose guard had damaged the hydraulic hose it was meant to protect, causing a rupture and oil leak from the digging arm.

Our engineers:
✔️ Removed the damaged pipe
✔️ Manufactured and fitted a bespoke replacement hose
✔️ Replaced hydraulic oil

After the repair, the plant operator tested the equipment, and once satisfied, we handed it back over for full operations to commence.

1️⃣ Ennerdale Forest
A burst hydraulic hose on a diesel articulating boom halted forestry operations. Luke replaced and tested the hose, getting the equipment back to work and keeping the forest industry moving. 🌲

2️⃣ Hardknott Pass - Barn Conversion Site.
A JCB Telehandler was down with a burst hose. Luke was on-site quickly, carried out the repair, and had the machine back in action. One happy customer and no lost time on the build. 🏗️
