LABOURERS WANTED

Lab Fit is looking for reliable, hardworking labourers to support our team on laboratory and commercial fit-out projects.

Previous site experience is preferred. We’re keen to hear from people who turn up on time, work well with others and are happy to get stuck in.

Duties include helping with deliveries, moving materials, keeping sites tidy and assisting our tradespeople.

We’re hiring: Experienced Carpenter / Fire Door Installer

Lab Fit is looking for an experienced and versatile carpenter or joiner to join our team, working on laboratory and office fit-out projects.

This is a varied role involving general first-fix and second-fix carpentry, fitting doors, frames, ironmongery, furniture, worktops and cabinetry, along with alterations and finishing work.

Previous fire-door installation experience is essential. You must be able to demonstrate experience installing, repairing and adjusting fire doors correctly, including frames, closers, hinges, intumescent strips, smoke seals and associated ironmongery.

We are happy to consider applicants looking for:
Permanent employment
Self-employed subcontract work

We’re looking for someone who:
Has strong general carpentry or joinery experience
Has proven fire-door installation and remedial experience
Produces consistently high-quality work
Is reliable, professional and able to work independently
Holds a full UK driving licence
Can provide references or examples of previous work

Relevant carpentry qualifications, a CSCS card and BM TRADA Q-Mark, FIRAS or other recognised fire-door training would be advantageous.

WE ARE HIRING - COST ESTIMATOR

Lab Fit is a specialist design-and-build contractor focused on laboratories, office and commercial workspaces. We're growing and looking for a estimator to join our core team and play a hands on role in delivering fast-paced, high-spec fit-out projects across the UK.

What You’ll Be Doing

Take ownership of estimating on tenders and negotiated projects
Manage the full project lifecycle: pre-construction planning, client liaison, subcontractor procurement, and on-site coordination
Work closely with our design team to develop value-engineered solutions
Ensure quality, cost, and programme targets are met
Represent Lab Fit on site and in client meetings with professionalism and confidence

What We’re Looking For

5+ years experience as an estimator, project manager, or contracts manager in fit-out or construction
Strong commercial acumen and ability to price from drawings, specs, or client briefs
Experience delivering technical or compliance-led projects (lab, cleanroom, healthcare, M&E-heavy etc. ideal)
Able to lead multiple projects concurrently and make decisions in a fast-moving environment
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
CAD would be advantage

One thing we've learnt over the years is that clients rarely remember every detail of a project.

They remember how the team made them feel.

Did people communicate?
Did they leave the site clean each day?
Did they respond quickly when something changed?
Did they take ownership instead of making excuses?

Technical ability gets you onto the tender list.

Professionalism is what gets you invited back.

What's the one thing that makes you trust a contractor enough to use them again?

Everyone gets excited about the finished project.

The new workspace.
The improved laboratory.
The fresh look.

But in our experience, the biggest problems usually start long before the first contractor arrives.

We've seen projects delayed because:

• The scope wasn't fully defined.
• Existing services weren't properly identified.
• The end users weren't involved early enough.
• Small details became expensive variations later.

A few extra hours spent planning at the beginning can save weeks during construction.

I'm interested to hear from Facilities Managers, Estates Teams and Project Managers.
