These pictures that we took on a really murky day really don’t do this one justice!

This is a PRS SE “Paul’s Guitar” has some really great build features. Fantastic body profile, with great cutaways, some excellent sounding PAF style pickups, a great neck profile, but yet arguably the worst bridge designs to ever curse a guitar.

This one also had quite a few QC issues which is really weird for PRS. Frets 6 and 7 (don’t say it!) were short on the treble side, the fretboard radius was wrong, quite a few frets were unseated and there were tooling marks left in the fretboard.

We reseated a bunch of frets, gave it a full fret dress with some added fallaway and set it up in E Standard with 10’s. Just needed a bit of attention to get it going correctly!

A fantastic Warmoth Partscaster that we had in for some electronic work and a setup.

We installed a DiMarzio Inc. Pro Track in the bridge, to partners the stacked single in the neck. Fitted a new volume pot, filled some nut slots and just in general got everything lovely.

This one has a compound radius board and some great Gotoh hardware.

Such a killer build.

So what is so special about Taylor Acoustic Guitars?

This Ibanez Jem 7D from the year 2000 is a very interesting guitar that has a really unique textured finish.

This one came in with an inconsistent board, worn and popped frets, so the best solution would be to refret. We did this one, like most lately in Stainless Steel.

We pulled the frets, reshot the board to flatten it and put the correct radius back into the board. We then installed some Jescar 47095 Stainless Fret wire, levelled and bevelled them after installing, shimmed the neck with a StewMac 0.5 neck shim, then put it all back together and set it up for 9’s.

Taylor Academy 10e.

Came in with a lot of popped frets, and a pretty high action. We reseated frets 1-11 and then did a full Level, Crown and Polish. But when you remove fret material to make them level, you make the action worse.

But because Taylor makes instruments that are great to work on, we have it a ‘neck reset’ using the shims that Taylor makes available for all players and repair people. We then made a custom shim to sit under the fretboard extension and now we have a beautiful playing acoustic guitar.

We’ll have a video coming out soon explaining the Taylor NT neck system.

Schecter as a brand doesn’t get enough love.

They’re usually overshadowed by the Jacksons, Ibanez and Charvels of the world. But they are great instruments, especially this Reaper-6.

This one came in for some fretwork, a new nut and a setup.

If you give us a guitar with a poplar burl veneer on the top, we’re going to love it.

If you’re wondering why we’re not posting much at the moment, it’s because we’re having a lot of jobs like this one!

This Yamaha electro-acoustic had some issues with uneven string amplification. The under string piezo was intermittent and the saddle that it was sitting in was a U shape for some reason. This meant that we had to even the saddle, basically blind, with only hand tools. And even after we levelled it, there was still a bit of a dead spot on the D and G strings.

Definitely a challenge, but we love a challenge. We evened out the slot, made a new nut, installed a new piezo, did a bit of jiggery pokery to get the strings more even, fixed the tuners, sorted an issue with the preamp vibrating and Voilà! A working and playable Electro-Acoustic.

Another Squier, now with Stainless Steel frets.

This Jim Root model came in with some really low frets, some that had popped, and a shockingly common S-deformation in the neck. So it needed refretting. We chose some Jescar 57110 Stainless Steel wire.

The nut also needed changing, but on these they seem to install them with an entire bottle of loctite, so we needed to patch some rosewood and lacquer a few spots. But we got it out, eventually!

We also managed to scuff one of the tuners somewhere in the process, because we’re only human and we make mistakes. So we bought and installed some really great Gotoh replacements, completely on the house for the customer. This really turned into one of those jobs that ends up costing you money to do, but in the end, it’s always worth it to see the end product.

This things plays great, and that fretboard is so killer. You never usually see that figuring on a Squier!
