😊We have a fantastic network of more than 100 Mental Health First Aiders across the Group. They play a crucial role in supporting our colleagues by offering a listening ear, signposting help and creating safe spaces to talk and listen.

In the last year, they’ve supported our colleagues to make sure they are seen and listened to. The impact of this can’t be overstated, and we’d like to use today’s Mental Health First Aider Day, to say a big thank you to those who give their time and commitment to create workplaces that are safer and better for everyone.

As a business that dates back more than 200 years, we have a long history of supporting armed forces personnel. This included nearly 100 colleagues who served in World War II.

Last week, our Ex Forces Community hosted a Remembrance Day Service at our head office in Northampton. This was led by Reverend Mandy Mariott and joined by some of the veterans, reservists, cadets and other colleagues who work in our business.
The service was followed by a wreath ceremony and marks our ongoing support for those who serve or have served our country, our ongoing commitment to Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust and as a UK top 35 Employer of veterans.

We used to look outside of our business for inspiring role models, but we have so many cultures and ethnicities that have helped to shape our company, so we have used this Black History Month to celebrate our own role models.

Thanks to our ACE network, one of our colleague inclusion networks, which stands for Awareness of Cultures and Ethnicities and aims to give a voice to and help address issues faced by under-represented ethnic minorities in our business, we’re working on driving positive change.

Need to talk? If you or someone you know is struggling, help is never far away. The Lighthouse Charity offers free and confidential support to anyone in the construction community, whether you’re dealing with stress, anxiety, financial worries, or just need someone to talk to.

We know that tackling mental health in construction is not done in a day, which is why we have partnered with The Lighthouse Charity and Band of Builders to improve support for our colleagues' and customers’ mental health. 🤝

No one should have to tackle mental health struggles alone, so in a recent "Big Brew" campaign across our Travis Perkins branches, colleagues and tradespeople have been encouraged to grab a cup of tea and stop for a chat to create a space for open conversations about mental health. ☕

Thanks to Band of Builders and Tarmac, who have teamed up with us for this campaign.

As one branch manager described it: “What really stood out was the diverse range of people who came forward, from colleagues and small contractors to housing association workers who often work alone, and even if we help one person, it's totally worth it."
